Job description
This position will be the sole Network Engineer based in the Portland/Hillsboro area, responsible for designing, deploying, supporting, and improving the organization's network infrastructure. The role blends operational ownership with ongoing engineering and optimization work - it is not a purely administrative or ticket driven position.
You'll work across corporate, data center, and multi site network environments, collaborating with internal stakeholders, vendors, and ISPs while maintaining full technical ownership., * Design, implement, and support enterprise and data center network infrastructure (LAN/WAN)
- Configure, install, monitor, and troubleshoot switches, routers, firewalls, and SD WAN solutions
- Own Palo Alto firewall deployments, maintenance, and security troubleshooting
- Monitor performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement long term, scalable solutions
- Support data center networking, including coordination with ISPs and vendors for circuit installs and upgrades
- Handle escalated network incidents and perform root cause analysis
- Maintain documentation, standards, and network design artifacts
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously while supporting production environments
- Participate in an on call rotation (approximately every 6th week)
Requirements
- Palo Alto firewalls (physical, virtual; Panorama exposure a plus)
- Cisco networking (routing & switching)
- Juniper and/or Arista
Nice to Have:
- Palo Alto Prisma / SD WAN
- Cisco Catalyst
- Multi site or geographically distributed networks
- Data center networking experience, * 6-8+ years of experience as a Network Engineer in an enterprise and/or data center environment
- Strong, hands on experience with Palo Alto Networks firewalls
- Solid routing and switching fundamentals (Cisco, Juniper, Arista, Aruba, or similar)
- Proven ability to work independently and own network environments end to end
- Experience supporting production networks with on call responsibility
- Ability to design, deploy, troubleshoot, and improve network systems (engineering mindset)
- Scripting or automation experience (Python, Bash, or similar) is a plus, * Prefer hands on engineering over pure administration
- Have been a "go to" engineer on a small or lean team
- Are comfortable juggling projects, escalations, and long term improvements
- Communicate clearly with technical and non technical stakeholders
- Enjoy owning systems from design through support
