Job description
Directing the application of engineering principles, theories, and concepts across the project, serving as the final technical authority for the team
- Reporting to the program manager responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving RF system design
- Providing RF subject matter expertise and test support for Navy communication systems
- Conducting research, analysis, compilation, design, development, and/or test of technical engineering data in support of customer requirements in one or more engineering disciplines
- Participating in technical design reviews and meetings, such as the System Requirements Review (SRR), Preliminary Design Review (PDR), Critical Design Review (CDR), Integrated Product Team (IPT) meetings, and Technical Interchange Meetings (TIMs)
- Defining and optimizing the end-to-end RF signal chain, including antenna selection, link budget analysis, and frequency planning to ensure system-level performance
- Leading root-cause analysis for complex RF issues such as co-site interference, signal degradation, and impedance mismatches within embedded architectures
- Utilizing tools like Python or MATLAB to model RF propagation, interference scenarios, and system-level response to validate designs before hardware fabrication
- Providing on-site or remote subject matter expertise during Navy shipboard or field-testing events to validate RF performance in real-world operational environments
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in electrical or systems engineering and twelve or more years of work-related experience
- Demonstrated experience applying systems engineering processes in the execution of projects
- Experience creating one or more of the following:
- Stakeholder requirements definition (operational requirements / CONOPS)
- Requirements analysis (development, decomposition, traceability)
- System design (definition, analysis, development)
- Integration
- Test and evaluation
- Experience writing technical reports and briefings
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Proficiency in the one or more of the following toolsets:
- C++
- Python or other object-oriented programming language
- Direct experience with RF test equipment, including spectrum analyzers, power meters, network analyzers, and oscilloscopes
- Experience with radio communication systems, Radio Frequency (RF) testing, and system engineering
- Providing RF subject matter expertise and test support for Navy communication systems
- A strong desire to learn and problem-solve
Desired Skills
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Visio, and PowerPoint
- Direct experience with RF test equipment, including spectrum analyzers, power meters, network analyzers, and oscilloscopes
- Experience with open architecture constructs like Sensor Open Systems Architecture (SOSA), Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Cyber, Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance (C5ISR)/Electronic Warfare Modular Open Suite of Standards (CMOSS), Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA)
- Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)
- Experience with project management principles and tools to support effective workflow and timely project deliverables
