About the company
The College was originally chartered in 1906 as the first postsecondary, two-year college in New York. In 1987, the State University of New York's Board of Trustees authorized the college's present designation as State University of New York College of Technology at Canton, more commonly known as SUNY Canton.
At SUNY Canton, students receive a career-driven education in a small, friendly and beautiful environment.
Students learn from professionals in their fields, so they may find themselves assisting a veterinarian, working in a health clinic or investigating a crime scene.
Most of the college's four-year programs integrate credit-bearing on-the-job internships, giving students a professional advantage when they enter their careers. Regardless of their major, all students benefit from our tutoring and library services which are currently ranked #1 in SUNY.
Sixteen academic majors are available completely online, for a convenient educational option. Many individual general education courses are also available online.
The campus spans acres of countryside and borders the historic Grasse River, lending itself to scenic views and plenty of room for outdoor activities. Many students enjoy the beautiful walk over the college's two footbridges spanning the Grasse River to explore downtown Canton.
The Adirondacks, the Thousand Islands, Ottawa and Montreal are all popular day trips.
SUNY Canton is one of the four colleges in the Canton/Potsdam area. The four institutions are linked by the Associated Colleges of the St. Lawrence Valley, a consortium which shares library services and provides cross-registration for students and staff. The Associated Colleges also sponsors a variety of educational programs and cultural events.
We believe that the employees of the college are our most important asset and their collective quality is what differentiates this institution from the rest of the State University. It is the individual, working in concert with others, who provides the quality learning and growing environment for our students. Our students are successful because of these values; the concern, the caring and personal support by faculty and staff. We believe that an investment in our people is the best investment we can make.
