Job description

job summary: As a Lead Data & AI Specialist for our premier client in the transportation sector, you will act as the architect of trust and accuracy for enterprise-wide analytical assets. This role is a strategic blend of technical leadership and cross-functional governance, focused on the design and operationalization of data models, metadata frameworks, and AI logic. You will bridge the gap between engineering and business strategy, ensuring that all intelligence outputs-from simple metrics to complex AI models-are explainable, compliant, and scalable. By mentoring a team of specialists and establishing repeatable standards, you will help move a national workforce toward a data-driven future where safety and reliability are powered by trusted intelligence.

responsibilities: Strategic Design: Lead the implementation and optimization of complex data assets, including enterprise datasets, metadata frameworks, and AI validation models.

Cross-Functional Leadership: Coordinate multi-team initiatives to improve data quality, lineage, and "value realization" across diverse business domains.

Standards Development: Create and refine repeatable patterns for data modeling, documentation, and stewardship to ensure enterprise-wide consistency.

Process Optimization: Evaluate existing analytical pipelines to identify cross-cutting issues, recommending enhancements to increase efficiency and data trust.

Mentorship & Guidance: Act as a technical lead, fostering the growth of junior specialists and ensuring team alignment with established data governance practices.

Compliance & Ethics: Partner with Product and Engineering leaders to ensure all AI and data outputs meet strict regulatory and ethical standards.

qualifications: Education: Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field (Advanced degree preferred).

Experience: 6+ years of progressive experience in Data Governance, AI, or Analytics, with a proven track record of leading complex, cross-domain initiatives.

Technical Expertise: Deep knowledge of metadata management, data lineage, and validation principles, alongside a strong understanding of responsible AI and data ethics.

Analytical Skills: Advanced diagnostic skills for assessing complex information systems and identifying architectural improvements.

Communication: Exceptional ability to influence both technical stakeholders and executive leadership, translating complex governance needs into business value.

Leadership: Demonstrated experience leading agile or cross-functional teams in an enterprise environment.
