Job description

IT Field Engineer (Hybrid - Madison, WI)

As our IT Field Engineer, you are the bridge between complex technology and the people who use it. You won't just be fixing machines; you'll be building relationships and ensuring our teams have the tools they need to succeed.

What you will be doing:

  • Travel to various sites to provide hands-on support for hardware, software, and network infrastructure.
  • Lead the installation and configuration of servers, workstations, routers, switches, and peripherals.
  • Act as the primary investigator for hardware failures, software glitches, and connectivity hurdles.
  • Proactively manage system health through patches, updates, and security hardening.
  • Work alongside internal Network and System Admins to escalate complex issues and manage vendor relationships for repairs and procurement. Provide clear, friendly guidance and training to end-users on software applications and security best practices.
  • Keep our "source of truth" accurate by maintaining hardware/software inventories and detailed support logs.

Requirements

  • 2-4 years in IT Support, with at least 2 years in a field service or helpdesk capacity.
  • Strong diagnostic skills across a variety of hardware and networking environments. Familiarity with ITIL practices and ticketing systems (ServiceNow).
  • Ability to translate tech speak into understandable language for users with varying technical comfort levels.
  • Self-motivated individual who can manage their own schedule and priorities while meeting deadlines.
  • Comfortable working a hybrid schedule and traveling up to 50% as needed to support our branches.
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Associate's Degree in Computer Science or Information Technology.
  • Certifications: CompTIA A+, CCNA, or Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP).

Physical Requirements & Travel:

  • Ability to lift 25lbs.
  • This position is based in Madison, WI, with a hybrid work structure.
  • Up to 50% travel, including overnight stays) to support our regional locations and attend company events.
