Job description

Design and implement new systems and features, as well as modify and maintain existing systems for adaptation to business and/or technology changes. Engage directly with IT management, business areas, technical teams, and vendors to ensure the successful design, development, and delivery of technology-based solutions.

Write code and modify software to fix errors, improve its performance, or upgrade interfaces. Direct system testing and validation procedures and work with business departments on technical issues including software system design and maintenance.

Drive the software change and release management processes, assisting with the overall maturity of the software development lifecycle. Ensure that software deliverables comply with quality standards and are completed on time.

Keep current with trends and issues in the industry and advise technology leadership on architecture or other impacts., * Responsible for delivery and integration of new technologies from a software development standpoint in support of core insurance processing (e.g., Marketing & Sales, New Business, Customer Service) and corporate functions (e.g., Finance, Investments, Fraternal).

  • Prepare documentation on programming project specifications to meet business requirements.
  • Design, develop, modify, implement, and support software components using analysis and programming skills to meet business needs.
  • Determine root cause for software issues and develop practical, efficient, and permanent technical solutions.
  • Modify software to fix errors, improve performance, or upgrade interfaces.
  • Support the configuration of selfmaintenance tools.
  • Analyze information to recommend and plan the installation of new systems or modifications of an existing system.
  • Evaluate interface requirements and develop specifications, performance requirements, and technical solutions.
  • Conduct system testing and validation procedures.
  • Work with business departments on technical issues including software system design and maintenance.
  • Coordinate the installation of new systems or the modification of existing systems.
  • Follow consistent methodologies in support of the project lifecycle and recommend improvements to the methodology to increase the quality and timeliness of output.
  • Assist in task planning, estimation and scheduling of software development and integration activities.
  • Contribute to the ongoing improvement of the portfolio of applications in terms of new and/or modified capabilities to meet business needs.
  • Provide insights into how to drive improvements to the business through costeffective technology solutions.
  • Drive the successful completion of technical deliverables and tasks of inscope projects.
  • Work collaboratively with the business areas to ensure software meets business requirements.
  • Keep current with trends and issues in the industry and advise technology leadership on architecture or other impacts.
  • Properly adheres to company risk management principles: o Adhering and supporting GBU's Enterprise Risk Management Framework
  • Understanding and complying with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures; completing all required training; executing and monitoring controls effectively (as applicable); appropriately identifying, assessing, escalating and remediating risks, potential issues and control failures (as applicable); and reporting compliance or regulatory concerns to management. oUnderstanding and conducting oneself in accordance with the Employee Handbook and preserving GBU's brand and reputation.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • 5+ years of programming experience.
  • Broad experience designing, programming, and implementing information systems including experience with the Microsoft .NET Framework / ASP.NET, NetCOBOL for Windows and SQL databases.
  • Ability to provide indepth evaluation and analysis of technological issues.
  • Ability to develop unit testing of code components or complete applications.
  • Understand concepts of software engineering.
  • Experience working on a variety of software development projects.
  • Experience in the insurance industry with an emphasis on technologies in support of the life and annuity sector.
  • Relevant industry experience that focuses on aligning technical services with the needs of the business.
  • Proven track record delivering high quality, successful software development and/or integration projects.
  • Understanding of current and planned system and technologies that may include development languages, Microsoft technologies, EXL LifePro Policy Administration System, and EAS Accounting Package.
  • Demonstrated team player with a cando attitude who takes a collaborative approach, strives for excellence and acts with integrity.
