Job description
Overview At our Biotech client, data is its most valuable asset. We are hiring a Principal Cloud Infrastructure Engineer to advise on the evolution of the Google Cloud Platform (Google Cloud Platform) ecosystem. You will be the architect and executor (hands on) of a secure, "science-ready" cloud environment that bridges the gap between high-performance computational chemistry and regulated clinical data requirements. Your goal is to mature the Google Cloud Platform infrastructure incrementally, ensuring that every deployment is automated, secure, and compliant., * Infrastructure Strategy & Governance: Define the roadmap for Google Cloud Platform services (Compute Engine, GKE, BigQuery, Vertex AI). Advise on "Buy vs. Build" decisions for Google Cloud Platform-native tools versus third-party integrations.
- DevOps & Automation: Lead the transition to a 100% Infrastructure as Code (IaC) environment using Terraform. Build and maintain robust CI/CD pipelines (e.g. GitHub Actions, Cloud Build) for both internal tools and scientific workflows.
- Security & Compliance: Implement and enforce a Zero Trust security model. Design VPC Service Controls, IAM hierarchies, and Cloud Armor policies.
- Incremental Maturity: Rather than "boiling the ocean," you will identify high-impact, low-friction improvements to our current stack, migrating legacy manual processes to automated, scalable cloud-native solutions.
- Technical Advisory: Act as the internal "Google Cloud Platform Guru" for our data scientists and chemists, helping them optimize their high-compute workloads (e.g., AlphaFold runs, molecular dynamics) for cost and performance.
Requirements
- Experience: 5+ years of dedicated experience in Cloud Engineering/DevOps, with at least 3+ years specifically on Google Cloud Platform.
- Technical Depth: Expert-level proficiency with Terraform, Kubernetes (GKE), and Docker.
- Security Mindset: Strong understanding of cloud networking (Shared VPCs, Interconnect) and identity management (Okta integration, Google Cloud Platform IAM).
- Industry Context: Previous experience in Life Sciences, Biotech, or Healthcare
- Solid Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) knowledge: experience in working on High Performance Compute (HPC) using GPUs.
- Education: B.S./M.S. in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
- Strong Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with a broad set of stakeholders on complex topics in a remote work environment.
Nice to have: Validated Environments (GxP): Ability to advise on cloud infrastructure meeting "Validated State" requirements (SOC2, HIPAA, and GxP compliance) for clinical-stage data, ensuring reproducibility and auditability of scientific results.
