Job description

Senior Platform / DevOps Engineer | £70,000 - £80,000 + 10% Bonus | Hybrid Working -Manchester

Here at Burns Sheehan, we are working with one of sport's most recognised organisations as they continue to build out a modern, cloud-first data platform. Technology is playing an increasingly central role in performance, analytics, and decision-making across the business, with a clear investment in Azure and data-driven infrastructure.

They are now looking for a Senior Platform / DevOps Engineer to take ownership of their cloud platform, supporting the delivery of advanced analytics capabilities used across both technical and commercial teams. This is a hands-on role with real influence, sitting at the centre of platform engineering, DevOps, and data infrastructure.

You'll be joining a team building out a highly scalable Azure environment, supporting everything from data pipelines to real-time analytics and reporting platforms. There is a strong focus on automation, platform reliability, and continuous improvement.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, and operate scalable Azure-based platforms with a focus on resilience, governance, and cost control
  • Own infrastructure provisioning and lifecycle management using Terraform
  • Lead on CI/CD strategy, implementation, and ongoing optimisation across platform services
  • Support and enhance data platforms, including Azure Databricks and associated pipelines
  • Implement and manage monitoring and observability tooling (Grafana, Datadog, Elastic)
  • Drive improvements across automation, deployment processes, and platform reliability
  • Collaborate closely with data and engineering teams to support analytics and reporting use cases
  • Contribute to best practices across platform engineering, security, and governance

Essential Requirements:

  • Strong experience designing and operating Azure-based platforms in production environments
  • Proven expertise with Infrastructure as Code, ideally Terraform
  • Hands-on experience owning CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes (Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions)
  • Experience with containerisation (Docker) and exposure to Kubernetes environments
  • Strong understanding of identity and access management within cloud platforms
  • Experience implementing monitoring and observability solutions
  • Strong scripting capability (Python, Bash or similar)

This role sits within a team focused on building advanced analytics capabilities, supporting areas such as performance analysis, reporting, and decision-making. There is a strong pipeline of work, including the continued development of data platforms and reporting tools, alongside a broader push towards infrastructure as code and platform maturity.

With a key contractor rolling off in the coming months, this hire will play an important role in maintaining momentum and shaping the next phase of platform development.
