Are you an experienced Infrastructure Engineer looking to step into a more strategic, architecture-led role within a stable banking environment? My client, a well-established international bank in London, is looking for a Mandarin Speaking Senior Infrastructure Engineer to take ownership of infrastructure architecture, BAU operations, and technical strategy across the organisation. This is a hands-on + leadership role, ideal for someone who enjoys both designing systems and keeping them running smoothly. Job Title: Mandarin Speaking Senior Infrastructure EngineerLocation: City of LondonWork style: 100% office basedSalary: Up to£85,000+Lunch coverLanguages: Fluent Mandarin and English The OpportunityThis is not just a BAU role - you will play a key role in: Shaping the bank's IT infrastructure roadmap and architecture strategyActing as a technical decision-maker across infrastructure, systems, and platformsDriving stability, scalability, and regulatory compliance across all IT environmentsLeading a small team while also remaining hands-on in critical technical areas Key Responsibilities Infrastructure Architecture & Strategy Own and define the end-to-end IT infrastructure framework, covering:Servers, storage, databasesNetwork and securityApplications and monitoring systemsDesign and implement future-state architecture solutions aligned with business growth and regulatory requirementsIdentify gaps in current systems and drive continuous improvement initiativesBAU Operations & Stability Oversee day-to-day IT infrastructure operations, ensuring high availability of all critical systemsTroubleshoot and resolve business-critical incidents under tight SLAsMonitor system performance and ensure optimal capacity and resource utilisationIT Governance & Regulatory Compliance Maintain infrastructure controls in line with:Head Office standardsUK regulatory expectationsIndustry frameworks such as ITIL and COBITEnsure all infrastructure solutions meet security, audit, and compliance requirementsDisaster Recovery & Risk Management Define and implement Disaster Recovery (DR) strategy and solutionsEnsure infrastructure resilience and business continuity planningProactively manage risks across infrastructure and systems Team Leadership & Stakeholder Management Lead and mentor infrastructure team membersAllocate BAU vs project workload to support team developmentWork closely with internal stakeholders, vendors, and external partnersProjects & Continuous Improvement
Requirements
Lead or contribute to infrastructure upgrade, migration, and optimisation projectsConduct feasibility studies and recommend improvements across systemsSupport application and system integration projects from an infrastructure perspective Requirements 7-10 years' experience across IT infrastructure (ideally within financial services or regulated environments)Strong technical expertise across:VMware / virtualisationWindows Server & Active DirectoryNetwork infrastructureStorage & backup solutionsSolid understanding of:Infrastructure architecture & system integrationIT security and governanceHands-on experience with SQL Server administration & scriptingCertifications such as CCNA / MCSE / VCP are highly desirableStrong communication skills with ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholdersMandarin speaking is preferred (frequent communication with Head Office)
