Job description
Performs electronic resource management tasks with specialized knowledge to create and maintain accurate data and resolve problems within library systems. Performs technical duties to ensure library users have access to electronic resources and understands the relationship, roles, and impact of electronic resource management workflows across the Libraries.
What You'll Do
- Assumes principal responsibility for managing database metadata in the suite of electronic resources management tools used by the Libraries. (40%)
- Performs quality control checks of subscribed databases to ensure consistency and accuracy utilizing multiple technologies. This includes monitoring monthly reports of provider and database changes from our electronic resource management tools and monitoring email notifications of changes from vendors.
- Investigates and resolves inaccuracies and queries regarding access to resources. Activates new database collections in Alma; requests that they are added to EZproxy as needed
- Updates and maintains records in Springshare Database A-Z List
- Troubleshoots and investigates denial of access problems for databases that come through the LibAnswers AskTech ticketing system or through direct communication. (20%)
Troubleshooting involves in-depth knowledge of the multiple technologies that support e-resource access, considerable independent judgment, and may include: *
- Investigation of subscription data, access given to Duke on provider's websites, and activations in the knowledgebase.
- Regular communication with vendors to gather information and resolve discrepancies.
- Testing off-campus access, basic knowledge of IP-based, proxied, and SSO authentication methods, and URL structures. Resolutions and customer support for patrons are given high priority, and work priorities are re-assessed based on patron needs.
- Responding to denial of access requests that require deviation from standard operating procedures by submitting tickets to bring in additional help as an appropriate resource.
- Supports accessibility through systematic evaluation of online research databases under consideration for acquisition by: (20%)
- Initiating, managing, and publicizing research database trials for library staff in Springshare Database A-Z List
- Systematically reviewing trialed databases for accessibility features using freely available tools such as screen readers, browser extensions, and manual testing methods
- Communicating findings to colleagues and vendors
- Provides general e-resource management support by: (15%)
- Retrieving eholdings and other knowledgebase data for use by department and other library staff.
- Leveraging database metadata management and e-resource expertise by identifying, planning, coordinating, contributing to, and reviewing special projects as needed.
- Keeps abreast of new developments and trends affecting electronic resources management by attending meetings, programs, workshops, monitoring listservs, etc. (5%)
- Serves as backup to other ERAD staff members, as appropriate.
- Performs other related duties or projects as assigned.
Requirements

Preferred: Prior experience working in an academic research library. Demonstrates in-depth knowledge and expertise in one or more areas of library resources and services such as electronic resources management. Familiarity with continuing resources lifecycle, knowledge and experience searching and editing in an integrated library system or other web interface tools to bibliographic databases; knowledge of Alma and Springshare library systems or comparable library software; proficient knowledge of MS Office, especially Excel; demonstrated ability to search for and interpret information retrieved from various sources or systems.

Benefits & conditions
This position classification offers a USD $51,401.00 to USD $82,291.00 annual salary range with an anticipated budgeted hiring range of $51,401.00 - $60,000, based on experience and internal equity. Duke is committed to transparency and fairness in its hiring practices.

Anticipated Pay Range: Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $50,393.00 to USD $80,677.00.
