Job description
- Work with design and operations teams to understand requirements and translate patient and provider needs into technical solutions.
- Architect and build key features of our care delivery platform.
- Own the full delivery cycle - including testing, deployment, and production reliability.
Early startup employees often wear many hats, too many to list in a concise set of bullets. While the primary responsibilities are building out the platform, you may occasionally touch areas across the broader scope of the company goals., Our Culture & Benefits: At Haven, we offer a unique opportunity to work directly with experienced founders who have built and scaled successful healthcare companies. You'll receive meaningful equity in a venture-backed company tackling a massive problem, along with comprehensive healthcare benefits. Our hybrid work environment, with 2 days per week in our San Francisco office (Tuesdays and Thursdays), provides flexibility while maintaining strong team collaboration.
Requirements
Do you have experience in Terraform?, * Mid to senior-level engineering experience with modern web frameworks (Phoenix, Rails, Django, etc.).
- Strong product intuition and ability to balance speed vs. scalability tradeoffs.
- Comfort with early-stage startup ambiguity, collaboration and wearing multiple hats.
- History not pushing outside of your role to understand requirements or digging into the data to understand user behavior to achieve goals
You're likely a strong fit if you get things done, are a good communicator and have empathy for yourself, our patients and all of your co-workers across the org. Other skills that are helpful but can be learned on the job include experience integrating with healthcare APIs, AI vendor APIs, working with HIPAA-compliant systems, and an interest in AI/ML applications in healthcare.
As an early employee, you'll have a significant opportunity for career growth as we scale. This role supports career track development in both individual contributor or management tracks.
About the company
Haven is building the future of migraine care for the 40 million Americans who suffer from this debilitating neurological condition. Backed by Precursor Ventures and 1843 Capital, we're transforming how migraine is treated through an innovative combination of telemedicine, AI-enabled monitoring, and personalized care plans. Our early results are exceptional, and what we find is that 85% of our patients show improvement in some way, shape or form.
Our cash compensation amount for this role is targeted at $180,000-$200,000/yr for the San Francisco Bay Area. The posted range represents the typical compensation range for this role. To determine actual compensation we review the market rate of each candidate which can include a variety of factors including qualifications, experience, and location. Additional benefits including meaningful equity, are shared as part of the job posting.
The Opportunity:
As part of our engineering team, you'll have an outsized impact on both our technology and culture. You'll work directly with our design, operations and clinical teams - including our Stanford-trained Chief Medical Officer and experienced engineers from Meta, Google, and Oracle - to build technology that meaningfully improves people's lives. We're tackling a $112B market opportunity where only 8% of patients currently receive adequate care.
Our Technology:
We're building an AI-forward care delivery platform - one where AI is woven into how patients are monitored, how clinicians make decisions, and how the operational side of care runs. The backend you'll be building is what makes that possible: it's the system of record, the integration layer, and the substrate the AI features run on top of. We've built it using Elixir, Phoenix and LiveView on AWS, with Postgres for persistence, infrastructure as code managed through Terraform, and CI/CD via Github Actions. The codebase is about 3 years old, so there's still a lot to build but not much cruft or legacy code to fight through. We use AI tools like Claude, Cursor and Gemini day-to-day. But we hire engineers for their judgment - the quality, the details, and the tradeoffs still require human experience, framing, and collaboration.
You'll Help Us:
Your primary focus will be building and scaling our care delivery platform, working closely with our clinical and operations teams to translate patient and provider needs into elegant technical solutions. As an early employee, you'll also help shape our engineering culture and technical strategy.
