Job description
We are seeking a Linux Infrastructure Engineer to support Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) patching and vulnerability remediation in an enterprise environment. This role focuses on coordinating and scheduling patching activities through ITSM processes, validating remediation outcomes, and supporting compliance and security objectives across Linux systems.
The engineer acts as a technical resource within Linux operations, partnering with infrastructure and security teams to help ensure systems remain secure, stable, and compliant. The role operates in a 24/7 environment and requires strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and comfort working in regulated, highly controlled environments.
What You'll Do
- Plan, coordinate, and schedule RHEL patching activities across enterprise systems
- Create and manage change records using ServiceNow or similar ITSM platforms
- Validate patching and vulnerability remediation results using system data and reports
- Analyze host-level system information to help identify factors impacting patch or remediation outcomes
- Work with infrastructure, application, and security teams to support remediation efforts
- Maintain accurate documentation to support audits, reporting, and compliance requirements

- Performs problem tracking, diagnosis and root-cause analysis, replication, troubleshooting, and resolution for complex issues. In this capacity, performs programming and debugging activities.
- Responds to issues in a timely manner by receiving and investigating incidents or service tickets.
- Analyzes and observes trends with technical issues and develops recommendations for long- term improvements.
- Documents all relevant end-user interactions and steps taken to resolve incidents.
- Has occasional contact with end-users.
- Communicates status of issue resolution to internal customers.
- May engage and manage outside vendors.
- Applies in-depth knowledge of application support and an understanding of best practices.
- Typically leads moderately complex projects and participates in larger, more complex initiatives.

- May have people management responsibilities for a small team., Able to work all hours scheduled, including overtime as directed by manager/supervisor and required by business need.

- Bachelor's degree and five years of experience in development or application support or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- In- depth knowledge in information systems and ability to identify, apply, and implement best practices.
- Understanding of key business processes and competitive strategies related to the IT function.
- Ability to plan and manage projects.
- Ability to solve complex problems by applying best practices.
- Ability to provide direction and mentor less experienced teammates.
- Ability to interpret and convey complex, difficult, or sensitive information.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Working knowledge of Linux, including command-line usage and system navigation
- Understanding of patching, vulnerability remediation, and system maintenance concepts
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to follow structured processes in controlled IT environments
- Bachelor's degree and 6+ years of experience in infrastructure, systems administration, or IT operations - or equivalent work experience
- Experience in banking, financial services, or other regulated environments
- Hands-on experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) Experience coordinating work through ServiceNow (change, incident, problem management)
- Experience with RHEL patching and maintenance in enterprise environments
- Experience using Red Hat Satellite for lifecycle or patch management
- Familiarity with vulnerability management workflows, including Qualys and ServiceNow Vulnerability Response (VR)
- Ability to analyze system configuration and OS state to support remediation efforts
- Basic scripting experience (Bash or Python) for operational or troubleshooting tasks
- Exposure to automation tools such as Ansible (not required)

Work Environment
This role supports a 24/7 operational model. Candidates must be willing to work day, evening, or overnight shifts, which may be rotating or fixed based on business needs., Lifting

Able to access and interpret client information received from the computer and able to hear and speak with individuals in person and on the phone.
Manual Dexterity / Keyboarding
Able to work standard office equipment, including PC keyboard and mouse, copy/fax machines, and printers.
