Job description
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a NIDD Design Manager to lead a team of design engineers supporting Amazon Dedicated Cloud (ADC) regions. In this role, you will create sustainable processes and standards while driving automation opportunities to reduce delivery cycle times and improve quality. You will manage the design of ICT pathways, spaces and infrastructure cabling (copper and fiber) for new data centers and the expansion of existing facilities, ensuring physical infrastructure designs are delivered on time with zero rework. This position offers the opportunity to shape the future of data center infrastructure while developing and mentoring a collaborative team of technical professionals.
This position requires that the candidate selected be a US citizen and obtain and maintain an active TS/SCI security clearance.
Key job responsibilities

Lead and develop the ADC Global Design team, fostering an inclusive environment that supports professional growth and technical excellence

Ensure timely delivery of scalable fiber optic and copper plant designs and specifications that meet customer demand and business objectives

Review and approve Information and Communications Technology (ICT) pathway, cabling, and equipment submittals while identifying and responding to risks effectively

Working knowledge of TEMPEST requirements

Partner with industry suppliers and manufacturers to define product requirements and explore emerging technologies that improve infrastructure quality and reduce costs

Conduct quality assurance audits at project sites, collaborate with project managers and contractors, and implement corrective actions to resolve issues (20% travel to AWS data centers)
A day in the life
As a NIDD Design Manager, you will collaborate with design engineers across the organization to develop innovative solutions for physical layer infrastructure. Your day may include reviewing design specifications using digital markup tools, mentoring team members on technical challenges, engaging with construction teams to ensure quality standards, and exploring new technologies with vendors. You will balance strategic planning with hands-on technical guidance, ensuring your team delivers high-quality designs while continuously improving processes. This role provides opportunities to influence infrastructure decisions at scale while building meaningful relationships across AWS.
Requirements
Experience hiring, developing, and managing high-performing technical teams

Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents

5+ years of team leadership experience

5+ years of experience in a data center technology role with knowledge of Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) network cabling, optical fiber types, and test equipment

Comprehensive understanding of infrastructure technology installation and design, including network cabling, hardware, and test methodologies
Preferred Qualifications

Experience owning the operation of a mission-critical team or product

Experience using one or more of the following CAD technologies: AutoCAD, Rhino, Revit, SolidWorks, CREO, BIM360, SketchUp or KeyShot

Experience in creating process improvements with automation and analysis

Building Industry Consulting Service International (BICSI) Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) certification or internationally recognized equivalent (e.g., Certified Data Centre Design Professional (CDCDP), Data Centre Design Consultant (DCDC) or proven experience in the design of ICT pathways, spaces and structured cabling

Demonstrated ability to develop creative and innovative solutions that reduce costs while maintaining or improving quality, reliability, and maintainability

Experience communicating technical requirements, designs, and strategies to diverse audiences including users, technical teams, and senior leadership

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
