Technical Architect - NHS experience is ESSENTIALKey Tech: Java & AWSDay Rate£700/day - Inside IR35LocationRemote with occasional need in London (roughly 1x/quarter)Duration6 months (with view to extend) ROLE DESCRIPTIONBrio Digital are supporting a consultancy on a major NHS digital programme and are looking for an experienced Technical Architect to play a key role in shaping and driving the technical direction of a complex, large-scale delivery. This is a senior position requiring someone who can operate confidently at both a strategic and hands-on level, bringing together architecture, engineering, and stakeholder management in a fast-paced NHS environment. KEY RESPONSIBILITIESDefine and own the technical architecture across the programme, ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, and aligned to NHS standards and frameworksProvide technical leadership and guidance to engineering teams, setting direction on tooling, patterns, and best practiceDesign and oversee cloud infrastructure on AWS, ensuring high availability, performance, and securityDrive Java-based development standards and architectural decisions across the codebaseEngage with NHS stakeholders and third party suppliers to align technical approaches with programme requirementsIdentify and manage technical risk, producing documentation and recommendations to support governance and assurance processesSupport technical onboarding of new team members and suppliersContribute to technical planning, roadmaps, and delivery timelines

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCENHS experience is essentialStrong Java and architecture background, with experience leading Java-based programmes at scaleDeep AWS expertise across core services and well-architected principlesProven experience as a Technical Architect on complex digital programmesAbility to communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholdersExperience working within government or NHS security and compliance frameworksComfortable working autonomously in a fully remote environment
