Job description
We are looking for a Senior Hardware Design Engineer to join one of our on-site engineering projects in the Bern region. In this role, you will contribute to the design, redesign, and integration of embedded electronic systems used in connected and safety-critical transportation and industrial applications. You will work closely within a multidisciplinary environment, collaborating with firmware developers, mechanical engineers, RF specialists, and test teams. This is a hands-on engineering position suited to someone who enjoys owning hardware activities end-to-end, from design updates and integration through testing and validation. Responsibilities: You will support multiple hardware development activities across two parallel projects.
- For the first project, you will contribute to a design update of a vehicle controller PCB, including the integration of audio, power delivery, hub functionality, and additional modules. This includes updating PCB layouts, ensuring alignment with mechanical housing constraints, and supporting BOM updates in SAP. You will also assist with manufacturing BOM updates to enable Bluetooth module integration, support testing using evaluation kits, and participate in design validation and de-risking test phases.
- For the second project, you will lead the hardware redesign of a Data Transfer Unit (DTU-UHF). This includes managing interfaces with an updated PCB from a third-party supplier, integrating a GPS antenna directly on the PCB, and supporting mechanical integration activities. You will actively contribute to system testing and de-risking activities in close cooperation with the wider engineering team.
Across both projects, you will ensure hardware quality, manufacturability, and robust system performance in a regulated, professional engineering environment.

- Proven experience with hardware interfaces such as SPI, CAN, USB, and RS-232
- Hands-on know-how in USB-C Dual Role Port (DRP) and Power Delivery (PD)
- Experience designing with EMV / EMC considerations
- Working knowledge of LTspice or equivalent SPICE simulation tools
- Experience with wireless communication technologies such as BLE, LoRa, and 2.4 GHz systems
- Practical understanding of antenna technology, including antenna types, impedance matching, and basic network planning
- Comfortable using laboratory test equipment, including oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and spectrum analyzers
- Understanding of firmware development concepts to support effective HW/FW integration
