Job description
This position will independently perform the lead role in all efforts involved with curation and specifically regeneration of vegetable (eggplant, okra, pepper, squash, watermelon, luffa, and gourd) germplasm including advanced, complex techniques of accession selection, field and greenhouse planting, pollinations, harvesting, seed cleaning, phenotypic data acquisition, inventory management, taxonomic identification and data entry. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
- Extensive and advanced knowledge to perform technical tasks and address technical problems related to germplasm curation, as well as use advanced problem-solving skills and apply these skills to varied and complex technical situations involved with germplasm curation.
- Skills and ability to perform varied and complex technical tasks involved with curation, including species-specific pollinations, taxonomic identification, regeneration prioritization, and database/inventory accession management.
Physical Demands
- Work in hot conditions in the field and greenhouse.
- Lift 50 pounds.
- Work with hot peppers, which are an irritant to some people.
- Driving as needed to perform job duties.

- Uses advanced techniques and approaches to deliver high-quality germplasm regenerations, including planning, implementing, and completing complex multi-species regenerations in both the field and greenhouse settings.

Duties/Responsibilities
- Make decisions regarding work on complex cases and exercise independent judgment in moderately complex cases related to germplasm curation, including selection of accessions for regeneration, determination of best techniques for successful regeneration, and continual improvement and development of techniques to maximize curation success.
- Make recommendations to research leader for curation projects.

- Provides complex technical services related to germplasm curation and collaborates with higher-level employees to develop and validate methods
- Uses advanced techniques and approaches to phenotype a diverse set of germplasm using both field and lab techniques, including biochemical, genetic, and morphological.
Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent and 5 years of related experience Preferred Qualifications
- Technical and advanced knowledge involved with curation and identification involving hand pollinations of okra, eggplant and other vegetable crops in the S-009 collection.
- Experience and data management using the Germplasm Resources Information Network (GRIN).
