Job description
Ensures the stability, security, and operational integrity of Kennesaw State University's physical IT environments, including data centers, server rooms, and MDF/IDF spaces. Oversees critical infrastructure systems such as power, HVAC, fire suppression, structured cabling, and environmental monitoring to maintain reliable, well organized, and compliant IT facilities. Serves as the primary coordinator for physical IT infrastructure, working closely with IT engineering teams, facilities personnel, and external vendors to support capacity planning, documentation, physical access control, and lifecycle maintenance across all university technology spaces., 1. Maintains the security, cleanliness, stability, and operational readiness of data centers, server rooms, and MDF/IDF environments
- Oversees the lifecycle of critical infrastructure systems, including HVAC, electrical power systems (generators, UPS, transfer switches, breakers), fire suppression, and environmental monitoring
- Ensures accurate installation, labeling, documentation, and maintenance of physical infrastructure components according to university and industry standards
- Maintains inventory, rack diagrams, power path documentation, cabling records, and physical layout documentation
- Monitors and plans for capacity involving power, cooling, and physical space to support current operations and future university growth
- Oversees structured cabling systems, including intra building and OSP cabling, ensuring adherence to TIA/EIA standards, proper labeling, and documentation quality
- Serves as the primary liaison between IT and Facilities, contractors, and external vendors for maintenance, testing, and coordination of building systems supporting IT operations
- Manages physical access controls for IT environments, including auditing access rights and supporting access technologies such as keycard systems and video monitoring
- Coordinates infrastructure work performed by networking, server and storage, and other technical teams to ensure adherence to standards, proper racking/stacking, cable management, inspections, and change control
- Develops, maintains, and enforces standard operating procedures (SOPs), infrastructure standards, and best practices, support team training and compliance, This position does not have any financial responsibilities. This position will not be required to drive. This role is considered a position of trust. This position does not require a purchasing card (P-Card). This position may travel 1% - 24% of the time

Requirements
Educational Requirements Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education in information technology, engineering, facilities management, related discipline, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
Required Experience Five (5) years of experience in IT infrastructure, data center operations, or facilities related IT management.
Preferred Qualifications
Additional Preferred Qualifications BICSI certifications such as RCDD or Technician (TECH) Data center infrastructure certifications such as CDCTP or CDCMP
Preferred Educational Qualifications An advanced degree from an accredited institution of higher education in a related field
Preferred Experience Experience working with DCIM platforms, CAD tools, or infrastructure modeling software Demonstrated experience developing and enforcing physical infrastructure standards across distributed IT environments

KNOWLEDGE Knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems supporting IT, including single and three phase power, UPS systems, load balancing, generators, transfer switches, breakers, and PDUs Strong understanding of structured cabling standards (TIA/EIA), pathway design, labeling protocols, and best practices in cable management Experience managing enterprise data centers, MDF/IDF rooms, or other mission critical physical IT environments Experience coordinating with Facilities teams for HVAC, electrical systems, fire suppression, and access control support Experience implementing or managing environmental monitoring systems (temperature, humidity, power usage, etc.) Hands on experience with rack elevation planning, documentation tools such as Visio, CAD, or DCIM platforms, and asset management systems Knowledge of physical security practices for IT spaces, including keycard access, video surveillance, and access audits, Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem solving, independent judgment, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, and presentation skills Project management skills and experience coordinating cross team and vendor activities Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (i.e., Microsoft Office suite) Strong attention to detail and follow up skills Strong customer service skills and phone and e mail etiquette
