Job description
Requires: professional certification (CCNA or CCNP).
- Support the network infrastructure for LAN/WAN services at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) on behalf of the Center for Information Technology (CIT).
- Coordinate work actions to ensure the NIH network infrastructure remains resilient, secure, and operational, enabling scientific research and progress.
- Respond quickly and thoroughly to incidents, requests, and outages to maximize network uptime for scientists, researchers, and staff.
- Leverage networking expertise to develop solutions in a fast-paced, highly collaborative federal environment that balances security and compliance with scientific discovery.
- Assist in maintaining and troubleshooting network devices such as CISCO routers, switches, wireless access points, firewalls, and related equipment.
- Create network and closet diagrams, decipher network topologies, and diagnose configuration issues using command line tools.
- Utilize network tools to diagnose, trace, and validate activity on LAN ports, network gear, and endpoints, analyzing logs and traffic.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree or high school diploma with relevant experience and professional certification (CCNA or CCNP).
- Minimum three (3) years of network administrator experience.
- Solid understanding of network protocols and switching, TCP/IP, FTP/HTTP(S), UDP, STP, VPN, etc.
- Experience troubleshooting network devices such as CISCO routers, switches, wireless access points, firewalls, and uninterruptible power supplies.
- Ability to activate and configure CISCO switches, routers, NICs, LAN ports, and diagnose configuration issues.
- Ability to create network diagrams and interpret network topologies.
- Proficiency with network diagnostic tools and log analysis.
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs to rack and stack network gear.
- Reliable transportation to respond to on-call emergencies within the DC-MD-VA area.
- Meticulous documentation skills and organizational ability.
- Effective team collaboration skills, both in-person and virtually.
- Strong sense of responsibility and ownership of tasks.
