Project Overview This role supports a large-scale system modernization initiative within the life insurance domain. The organization has recently implemented the Verisk FAST platform, and this consultant will play a critical role in accelerating the delivery of new life insurance policies. The focus is on improving speed to market, policy accuracy, scalability, and customer experience while reducing operational costs through automation and modern architecture. You will serve as a senior technical and architectural leader, translating complex business needs into enterprise-ready technical solutions. While not a hands-on coding role, this position is highly influential in guiding design decisions, integrations, and delivery across multiple platforms and teams. Key Initiatives & Business Drivers

Lead large, highly complex, multi-platform and cross-enterprise initiatives as a top-level technical expert

Provide architectural leadership across FAST, Java-based services, Salesforce solutions, and underwriting systems

Partner closely with enterprise architects to clarify solution direction and translate architecture into executable delivery

Identify when work extends beyond standard feature development (e.g., new applications, integrations, or architectural patterns)

Co-create and maintain design artifacts, technical documentation, and solution specifications

Translate business requirements into technical, functional, and non-functional requirements

Lead definition of project scope, objectives, deliverables, timelines, and implementation plans

Instruct, guide, and review work produced by other team members without direct people management responsibility

Collaborate with product owners, analysts, developers, QA, and business partners to drive successful outcomes

Apply deep expertise in systems development life cycle (SDLC) practices

Analyze and resolve complex technical problems using structured, data-driven approaches
Requirements
- Strong ability to translate business needs into technical solutions
- Enterprise-level thinking across data, integrations, security, and system impacts
- Proven experience leading very complex, multi-subsystem solution delivery initiatives
- Experience as a Technical Lead and/or Project Architect (highly preferred)
- Insurance industry experience (highly preferred)
- Deep understanding of systems analysis, application architecture, and integration patterns
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to simplify complex concepts for diverse audiences
- Ability to lead and influence cross-functional teams in ambiguous and complex environments
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum delivery models
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (preferred)
- 12+ years of IT development or equivalent experience (preferred) Team Environment You will be part of a collaborative Scrum team of approximately 10 members, including a Scrum Master, Product Owner, Technical Analyst, Developers, QA, and UAT resources. The role operates during standard Central Time business hours and works closely with both business and IT stakeholders.

Job Type & LocationThis is a Permanent position based out of Chicago, IL. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $125000.00 - $155000.00/yr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
