Job description

This position is for a Cloud and Systems Engineer to join our team in Chantilly, VA. The team is comprised of highly technical and motivated individuals. The engineer for this role will assist in the operation, automation, and support of hybrid infrastructure environments across AWS, Azure, GCP, and on-premises systems. Working under the guidance of the Senior Cloud and Systems Engineer, this role supports cloud storage pipelines, system administration, VoIP infrastructure, and automation tasks critical to ongoing operations.

This position is ideal for a technically proficient engineer who can handle day-to-day infrastructure tasks, document procedures, and serve as a capable backup when the lead engineer is unavailable. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, responsive, and experienced in cross-platform administration.

Primary Responsibilities:

Cloud & Storage Integration

  • Assist in managing data pipelines between AWS S3, Azure Blob Storage, and Google Cloud Storage
  • Support deployment and updates of serverless functions (e.g., Lambda, Azure Functions, Cloud Functions)
  • Help maintain cloud storage access controls, secrets, and container configurations

Systems Administration

  • Administer and troubleshoot Linux systems (Rocky Linux/Ubuntu), including logs, services, and package management
  • Administer and troubleshoot Windows Domain environment (Server 2022, Windows 11)
  • Maintain system automation using cron, system services, and scripted routines
  • Support web-based tools and services (e.g., NGINX, MediaWiki, ClamAV, virsh)

VoIP / PBX Systems

  • Assist in supporting FreePBX and PBXact phone systems, including auto-provisioning, endpoint configuration, and updates
  • Monitor SIP trunk health and system call behavior under the direction of the Senior Engineer

Documentation & Operational Support

  • Document technical procedures, automation workflows, and deployment steps
  • Maintain logs and status reports on routine tasks, transfers, and system health
  • Participate in incident response, including root cause analysis and resolution tracking

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 12 years of experience OR Master's degree and at least 10 years of experience
  • Must have a TS/SCI With Poly to be considered
  • 3-5 years of experience in systems engineering or cloud infrastructure support
  • Proficient in Linux system administration and shell scripting
  • Experience working in at least one major cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
  • Familiarity with Python or Bash scripting for automation tasks

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting hybrid cloud deployments or cross-cloud data workflows
  • Exposure to FreePBX or enterprise VoIP systems
  • Familiarity with automation tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible, or cloud SDKs)
  • Operating Systems: Rocky Linux, Ubuntu, Windows Server 2022, Windows Active Directory
  • Cloud Platforms: AWS, Azure, GCP
  • Languages & Tools: Bash, Python, cron, systemd
  • Applications: ClamAV, NGINX, FreePBX, PBXact, Jenkins/Puppet/SALT
