Job description

The Software Administrator provides analysis for end users on hardware and software application specifications, procedures and recommendations used in Brunswick County Schools for optimal performance and security. Employee designs, creates and modifies systems and software applications for delivery to technology user's computers. Employee is responsible for the day to day operation, troubleshooting, testing and configuration of the Microsoft Active Directory SCCM System. Employee identifies problems and takes appropriate corrective actions. Employee documents systems configurations, user settings and hardware specifications. Employee provides level two support for the maintenance and operation of computers and software at the school level. This position serves as a backup to the Help Desk technician position., * Under the supervision of the Data Systems Manager, assists with the installation and configuration of hardware, software, and related peripherals in the district

  • Follow all rules, policies, and procedures of BCS, along with state and federal regulations pertaining to schools and technology

  • Ensures the maintenance of all computers and software by monitoring performance and security

  • Designs and develops application delivery, images, and patches utilizing SCCM

  • Performs testing on all deployments for proper results and minimize impact to end users

  • Installs upgrades to hardware and software applications; coordinates patch management functions

  • Analyze computer systems to include assessing end-user software needs and determining software specific specifications

  • Communicates with vendors to resolve problems with software and hardware as necessary

  • Functions at system level demonstrating troubleshooting skills within Microsoft Active Directory

  • Provide insight on the use and implementation of new software systems and technologies

  • Provide ongoing application support and troubleshooting for software packages to meet BCS needs

  • Provide end-user appropriate training on related software applications

  • Monitors network and server functions daily and reports alarms to management

  • Work within the Technology Department to develop a strong cohesive unit supporting all technology

  • Attends classes and seminars to enhance knowledge of equipment and operating systems

  • District cell phone is to be charged and reachable during off hours

  • Available for after hours emergencies and weekends to assist with the restoration of network services

  • Responds to emergency situations during or after hours for the purpose of resolving failures or mitigating Cybersecurity events

  • Duties as assigned by Data Systems Manager or Director

Requirements

Do you have a valid Driver's License license?, Do you have experience in Operating systems?, Do you have a Associate's degree?, Licensing/Certifications:

  • A Valid North Carolina Driver's License

  • Certifications in Microsoft are a plus.

Education:

  • Associates Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related experience

Experience:

  • Combination of (4) four years of education and/or experience with server, desktop and peripheral troubleshooting in a network environment

  • Experience in an educational environment preferred, * Strong knowledge of computers and related technologies

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory and SCCM

  • Functional knowledge of general programs, policies and practices used in education for computer software installations

  • Knowledge of mobile device management systems and their use in education

  • Above average knowledge of software applications used in the educational environments

  • General knowledge of networks and enterprise security

  • Advanced ability to troubleshoot various technology issues, especially those at system level

  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of technology users with effective interpersonal skills

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teammates

  • Ability to prioritize work through time management to meet deadlines

  • Ability to analyze problems, identify solutions, project consequences and implement proposed solutions

  • Ability to document step by step instructions to solutions for end-users

  • Ability to learn new technologies and contribute to new system deployments; maintain knowledge and skill as required to stay current with emerging technology

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Strength and energy sufficient to maintain an active work schedule involving driving as needed; hearing and speaking to exchange information; seeing to perform assigned duties requiring close vision and ability to adjust focus; ability to distinguish between colors; sitting for extended periods of time; standing, stooping, and walking; kneeling, bending at the waist and knee as needed; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate tools and equipment; lifting and or moving up to 10 pounds and occasionally lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds
