Job description

We are looking for a Forward Deployed Engineer to help support our work in deploying frontier AI models real industrial environments.

You will sit between engineering, product and customers, making sure our technology works in the places where it matters, this is in factories, production lines and operational teams. You will help scope customer problems, connect to messy industrial data, deploy early systems, troubleshoot issues and turn what we learn on-site into better product decisions.

This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys ambiguity, technical problem-solving and working directly with customers. This can be from mapping a customer's operational workflow, to debugging a data pipeline, supporting a deployment or helping the team prioritise what needs to be built next.

What you will do:

  • Work directly with manufacturers to understand their operational challenges, data systems and deployment requirements.
  • Lead technical scoping for new customer deployments, from initial problem definition through to implementation.
  • Connect, clean and structure industrial data from different customer environments.
  • Deploy and support early versions of the EntroMetrix platform in live industrial settings..
  • Translate customer feedback into clear product and engineering requirements.
  • Work closely with the ML and engineering team to improve model deployment, reliability and usability.
  • Build repeatable deployment playbooks so each new customer implementation becomes faster and stronger.

Requirements

Do you have experience in Systems engineering?, * A degree in engineering, computer science, physics, mathematics, applied science or a closely related STEM field from a top university.

  • Strong technical ability across software, data and systems engineering.
  • Practical experience with Python, SQL and working with real-world datasets.
  • Comfort working with APIs, data pipelines, dashboards, cloud tools or deployment environments.
  • Strong problem-solving ability in messy, ambiguous and time-sensitive situations.
  • The ability to communicate clearly with both technical teams and non-technical customers.
  • Interest in industrial systems, manufacturing, operations and applied AI.
  • Willingness to spend time at customer sites and work closely with engineers, operators and management teams.
  • High ownership, strong judgement and the ability to get things done without needing a perfect brief.

Nice to have:

  • Experience in a forward deployed, solutions engineering, data engineering, product engineering or technical consulting role.
  • Background in manufacturing, energy, process engineering, supply chains or industrial operations.
  • Exposure to industrial data environments, including SCADA, OPC UA, Modbus, PLCs, historians or sensor systems.
  • Experience deploying software or data products into customer environments.
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure, Docker, backend systems or modern data stacks.
  • Experience working in early-stage startups or high-ownership technical teams.

Benefits & conditions

  • Competitive compensation package
  • The chance to help build frontier AI models that will define how factories are run over the next decade.
  • Work directly with manufacturers across sectors, from large enterprises to SMEs, and see models deployed in real industrial operations help decarbonise and improve resilience across manufacturing.
  • A small, technical team with high ownership, honest feedback and no theatre.
  • Unlimited coffee (other drinks also possible).

About the company

EntroMetrix is an early-stage UK startup building physics-informed AI for industrial operations. We help manufacturers improve efficiency, sustainability and operational performance by turning data into actionable intelligence. Our models have already been validated on real industrial data, showing significant improvement potential, and we are now expanding deployment. We are founded by engineers from Cambridge and Imperial and are a small, high-calibre team tackling a critical industrial challenge, where the pace is fast, the technical bar is high, and every hire has direct impact on what we build
