Job description
The Shipt Cyber Fraud team is responsible for ensuring that as we grow, every customer, shopper, and retailer interaction is seamless and safe. As a Staff Engineer within our Cyber Fraud team, you will not just respond to threats, you will strategically champion the technical health of our anti-fraud product, architecting a landscape where innovation and security coexist, providing the best possible user experience., We are seeking a highly motivated Staff Engineer to be the technical anchor of Shipt's fraud prevention ecosystem. You will not only lead engineering efforts to design and implement complex, scalable risk assessment systems required to react quickly to protect Shipt's bottom line, but also act as a strategic lead with cross-functional teams to ensure that fraud and abuse are systematically prevented. This role will directly contribute to the mission of protecting customer, shopper, and business data from exfiltration by unauthorized parties, and prevent material financial losses to ensure that user confidence remains high while our business grows.
In this role you will architect, build, and deploy mission critical APIs and services while ensuring high code quality, security, and scalability. You will also create low latency integrations that detect and address realtime fraud and abuse across Shipt's ecosystem. As a SME for the Cyber Fraud team, you will collaborate with cross functional teams and lead architectural design reviews, providing technical mentorship to junior and senior engineers.
Work closely with Data Science partners to design and expand upon comprehensive in-house rules engines and ML models, Shipt considers candidates located near a Shipt office or workspace in Birmingham, San Francisco, or Minneapolis to be hybrid, which means that they have the flexibility to work from home (with leader approval) or at a Shipt office in order to facilitate the ability to innovate, collaborate, and spark team connections. In-office expectations will vary by role and leader. Certain roles may require in-office presence on a full-time basis. Requirements
- Minimum of 8+ years of experience in backend engineering
- Expert in backend languages such as Golang, Javascript, or Python
- Proven expertise in API development and integrations
- Extensive experience with version control tools such as Git and GitHub
- Strong skills in data storage, retrieval, and analysis using PostgreSQL and Snowflake
- Proven experience in working with 3rd party vendor integrations
- Experience with messaging frameworks such as Kafka or AWS SNS/SQS
- Experience with observability tools such as DataDog, Grafana, and Prometheus
- Expert at identifying and optimizing inefficient code, database queries, and network requests, This list includes key skills used in this job but is not inclusive of all skills needed for the role. Please see any required education below.
