Job description
- Define and decompose avionics system and hardware requirements for defense aircraft and mission systems
- Develop avionics architectures including processing, I/O, power, redundancy, and data buses
- Perform system trade studies considering mission reliability, survivability, SWaP-C, and obsolescence
- Define and manage hardware interfaces and ICDs across avionics subsystems
Requirements & Configuration Management
- Author and manage system and hardware requirements using tools such as DOORS / Jama
- Maintain end-to-end traceability from requirements through verification and certification artifacts
- Support formal configuration control boards (CCB) and engineering change processes
Hardware-Focused Systems Engineering
- Provide system-level oversight for avionics LRUs, circuit cards, and power electronics
- Coordinate with electrical, FPGA, software, and mechanical teams to ensure system compliance
- Guide hardware development in alignment with DO-254 and military airworthiness guidance
Verification, Validation & Compliance
- Define and support verification and validation strategies for avionics hardware
- Review and support qualification, acceptance, and environmental testing
- Ensure compliance with MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461, and applicable platform standards
- Support formal technical reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR, FRR)
Safety, Reliability & Mission Assurance
- Support or lead safety and mission assurance activities
- Perform or review FMEA/FMECA, Fault Tree Analysis, and reliability assessments
- Support redundancy management, fault tolerance, and fail-safe / fail-operational designs
- Identify technical risks and lead mitigation actions across program phases
Integration & Sustainment
- Support avionics integration, lab bring-up, and system-level troubleshooting
- Assist with root-cause analysis of hardware/software/system issues
- Support sustainment, upgrades, and obsolescence mitigation activities
- Interface with suppliers, test organizations, and government representatives as required
Requirements
Do you have experience in Electrical engineering?, A hardware-focused aerospace systems engineer combines deep electronics and hardware understanding with rigorous requirements management, safety-driven design, and full lifecycle verification within regulated aerospace environments.
