Job description
Your responsibilities will include, in particular, the purchase and management of hardware and software (including web server management, technical support, and network and documentation maintenance), as well as the further development and maintenance of the group's internal IT infrastructure. In addition, you will work with other faculty technicians to maintain the faculty's central IT infrastructure., * Procurement, replacement, and new acquisition of hardware and software, as well as assistance with soliciting and evaluating bids
- Installation and maintenance of hardware and software, particularly PC workstations (Windows, Linux, MacOS)
- Administration of Linux servers (e.g., web servers, file servers, workload managers) and assistance with network administration
- Providing first-level support to users and handling more complex technical issues
- Maintenance and further development of the website (primarily CMS-based systems) as well as small internal web applications (PHP)
- In addition, you will take on tasks related to the faculty-wide IT infrastructure of the Faculty of Computer Science
Requirements
- A completed degree or training program in computer science or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
- Several years of practical experience in system administration and IT support for workgroups
- Experience in administering Linux, Windows, and macOS systems, with a focus on Linux servers (e.g., Apache/Nginx, NFS, LDAP, or similar services)
- Strong knowledge of scripting and automation (e.g., Shell, Python)
- Experience with content management systems (ideally Typo3 or similar) and basic web programming (e.g., PHP)
- Curiosity and a willingness to quickly familiarize yourself with new technologies and requirements
- Ability to work well with others, as well as a structured and independent work style
- Excellent written and spoken German (at least C1 level) and good written and spoken English (at least B2 level)
Additionally, the following skills would be desirable:
- Advanced knowledge of web programming (e.g., HTML, PHP) and web frameworks (e.g., Laravel)
- Experience with Samba, Active Directory, or similar directory services, as well as workload managers (e.g., Slurm)
- Experience with virtualization, container technologies, or monitoring solutions
- Interest in and experience collaborating with research groups in academic settings
- Knowledge of high-level programming languages such as C/C++ or Python
- Support in conducting experimental studies
