Job description
An opportunity to play your part: The Bord Gáis Domain Architect is accountable for the end-to-end technology architecture across the entire Irish portfolio, providing technical leadership and architectural direction through a period of major transformation, including the migration to the ENSEK Ignition platform. The role shapes product-aligned, outcome-driven architecture that improves customer experience, strengthens operational performance, and simplifies the technology estate. Acting as the key architectural partner for Product, Engineering, and Delivery teams, the Domain Architect ensures alignment to Centrica's enterprise guardrails, maximises reuse of strategic platforms, and makes informed, commercially balanced design decisions. They bring whole-system thinking, market and regulatory awareness, and strong delivery engagement to ensure that architecture is practical, buildable, and scalable. The role also lifts architectural capability across the domain by coaching solution architects and fostering a culture of clarity, quality, and continuous improvement., * Define and maintain the target architecture for all Bord Gáis business lines - Residential, Business and Services. Ensure these roadmaps align to Centrica's enterprise standards and the strategic direction set by Retail Architecture. Provide clear architectural direction to guide the transition to ENSEK Ignition and the required simplification/convergence of legacy platforms.
- Design architecture around the outcomes that matter for Bord Gáis - customer experience, operational efficiency, regulatory compliance (CRU/industry), and commercial performance. Ensure architectural decisions directly support the OKRs for Billing, Customer Service, Market Operations, and Field Services. Challenge solutions that create unnecessary complexity or cost.
- Champion the use of strategic platforms such as ENSEK Ignition and shared integration/API frameworks. Ensure Bord Gáis consumes shared capabilities where appropriate, while clearly identifying where the Irish market require local differentiation. Drive reuse of Centrica-wide accelerators and prevent divergence from Retail architectural guardrails.
- Operate within Centrica's architectural guardrails and decision rights. Own architecture expertise within the Bord Gáis domain, escalating only when choices impact cross-market capabilities, enterprise platforms, or introduce strategic risk. Ensure all designs meet enterprise NFRs, security standards, and data protection obligations.
- Design with an understanding of Irish industry processes (e.g., market flows, Gas/Elec market interactions, DSOs/TSOs, regulatory cycles), integrations to legacy BGE systems, and upstream/downstream impacts. Ensure architectures are robust, operable, cost-efficient, and able to scale for customer growth and increased digital adoption.
- Work closely with the Platform, Product, and Bord Gáis programme teams to ensure designs are buildable and grounded in delivery reality. Adapt architectural direction as the architecture evolves. Measure architectural effectiveness by delivery progress and post-go-live adoption, not documentation.
- In partnership with Product and Finance, ensure architectural options factor in total cost of ownership, cloud economics, licensing (ENSEK & non-ENSEK), vendor risk, regulatory impacts, and operational cost-to-serve. Provide clear analysis to support build-vs-buy decisions, platform extensions, or local differentiators required for the Irish market.
- Be the trusted architectural advisor for Bord Gáis leadership, including Product Directors, Programme Directors, Engineering Leads, and Technology Leaders and the wider Centrica Retail organisation. Communicate architectural decisions clearly and influence outcomes through expertise, not hierarchy.
- Coach and support the Solution Architects and engineers working across Bord Gáis initiatives. Promote clarity, quality, platform reuse, and continual improvement. Drive uplift in architectural maturity across B2C, B2B, Services and the Ensek Ignition migration.

- Experience with architectural governance and compliance in a large organisation.
- Demonstrates the safe and responsible use of AI tools, with clear knowledge of when AI use is appropriate and strong awareness of accuracy, bias and compliance. Bringing the ability to design and reuse prompt templates to support consistent, high quality workflow outputs, and skilled in using AI to triage, classify and analyse information within Centrica policy guardrails.
- Strong ability to recognise higher risk scenarios and escalate to governance or security as needed. Alongside this, showing proficiency in enterprise AI copilots, knowledge assistants and AI enhanced productivity tools.
