Job description

We are currently partnering with our client to identify a talented ICT Architect (m/w/d) to support the design and development of a cloud platform based on open-source virtualization technologies, with a focus on compute, virtualization, and networking (SDN).

In this role, you will join a team operating in a lean-agile environment, continuously optimizing processes to deliver the best possible customer experience. This approach is supported by a high degree of autonomy and personal accountability, enabling the delivery of reliable, stable, and secure services.

Main Tasks

  • Design and development of the cloud platform based on open-source virtualization technologies, with a focus on compute, virtualization, and networking (SDN).
  • Integration and operation of KVM/QEMU for the virtualization layer as well as OVN/OVS for SDN, tenant isolation, routing, and network segmentation.
  • Automation of provisioning, configuration, and day-2 operations using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and CI/CD.
  • Definition and implementation of operational models for monitoring, alerting, logging, as well as incident, problem, and change management.
  • Technical coordination with architecture, security, operations, and external vendors, including validation through integration, failover, and acceptance testing.

Requirements

  • Relevant education and corresponding professional experience required.
  • Very strong experience in Linux/system engineering within production-like environments.
  • Deep hands-on expertise in KVM, QEMU, libvirt, as well as OVN / Open vSwitch.
  • Strong understanding of IP networking, L2/L3, overlay networks, routing, NAT, ACLs/security groups, load balancing, and tenant separation.
  • Experience in building or operating private cloud / IaaS / virtualization platforms with a focus on high availability (HA), scalability, and resilience.
  • Strong knowledge of automation/IaC using tools such as Terraform, Ansible, Python, and Bash.
  • Experience with Git, GitLab/GitHub, CI/CD, and standardized release and deployment processes.
  • Solid knowledge of observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/OpenSearch, as well as structured troubleshooting and root cause analysis (RCA).
  • Experience with security hardening, secrets management, certificates, RBAC/IAM, and operational security requirements.
  • Independent, resilient personality with a strong ownership mindset.
  • Fluent English, written and spoken; German is a strong plus.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Ubuntu/Canonical, Proxmox, or other OS-based hypervisor technologies, or comparable cloud/IaaS platforms.
  • Knowledge of Kubernetes/KubeVirt/Kube-OVN, as well as interfaces between VM, container, and networking platforms.
  • Experience in service provider, telecom, or managed service environments.
  • Knowledge of SRE, DevSecOps, engineering practices, and platform governance.
  • Experience with cloud landing zones, IAM/network design, disaster recovery (DR), business continuity management (BCM), and service management processes.
  • Knowledge of storage integration for virtualization platforms, performance tuning, and capacity forecasting. Certifications in Linux, networking, Kubernetes, or cloud/IaC are a plus.
