Job description

The Production Support Engineer will support production teams in delivering first-time fixes through the interrogation and analysis of train data systems, including EMS, Rtd, RCM, and OTMR. The role provides technical support by capturing and analysing defects as they are reported, helping to reduce incidents arising from maintenance activities.

Working closely with Technical Services and the Performance Team, you will identify root causes and implement effective corrective actions, including briefings, process improvements, best practices, driving good standards and practices, development of fault-finding guides and support for pre-production/project activities.

You will coach and mentor engineers in advanced fault-finding techniques, both during routine maintenance activities and when investigating repeat or complex defects that require extensive scopes of work. You will support the development of technical knowledge across Southeastern rolling stock systems to various engineering grades.

The role requires proactive use of train data to identify problem units prior to in-service failure, raising work reports and defining scopes of work where required. You will also support the rectification of technically challenging faults and long-term defects, using train data to monitor unit performance for up to six days following repair to ensure fault-free operation.

In addition, the role provides technical support to production teams on issues affecting delivery, including procedural clarification, component identification, and maintenance best practice.

Requirements

  • Experience of rolling stock maintenance, planned maintenance processes, and rail vehicle system repair. (Preferred)
  • Technical knowledge of Southeastern rolling stock fleets. (Preferred)
  • Good understanding of train management and mainframe systems, including EMS, TRUST, and hybrid systems such as GENIUS and RAVERS. (Preferred)
  • Competent in Microsoft Office applications, including Windows, Word, and Excel.
  • HNC/HND qualification in an Electrical Engineering discipline. (Desirable)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrable ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to make sound technical decisions under pressure.
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to meet tight deadlines when required.
  • Strong electrical and mechanical fault diagnosis skills, including the interpretation of electrical and software schematics.
  • A strong interest in coaching, mentoring and developing others
