Job description
We are looking for a System Engineer to join our maritime team, working on autonomous surface vehicles and robotic platforms. In this role, you will bridge the gap between hardware, software, and operations-ensuring reliable system integration, configuration, and deployment of our cutting-edge maritime solutions.
You will collaborate closely with electrical, software, and control engineers across Auterion to bring next-generation maritime products to market. Your systems expertise will help expand our ecosystem of supported hardware, improve reliability and safety, and enable truly autonomous maritime workflows.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Lead the integration, configuration, and validation of complex maritime systems, including embedded controllers, sensors, and communication networks.
- Work with cross-functional teams to define system architecture, interfaces, and requirements for autonomous vessel platforms.
- Develop and maintain system-level documentation, test plans, and configuration baselines.
- Expanding core product capabilities by integrating advanced sensor support and engineering complex autonomous behaviors.
- Conduct system validation and performance testing on real vessels to ensure safety, reliability, and compliance with maritime standards.
- Analyze system logs, telemetry, and data to identify and resolve issues or performance bottlenecks.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of integration processes, automation, and toolchains for maritime platforms.
Requirements
Do you have experience in Sensors?, Do you have a Master's degree?, * Bachelor's or Master's degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in system integration, verification, and validation for complex hardware-software systems.
- Strong understanding of embedded Linux, networking, and distributed system architectures.
- Familiarity with robotic and autonomous systems, including sensors such as IMUs, GPS, radar, magnetometers, and barometers.
- Proven experience with systems testing, debugging, and field validation of autonomous or robotic platforms.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills for cross-disciplinary collaboration.
- CH/EU citizenship required
Preferred Skills
- Knowledge of CAN, NMEA 2000, and Ethernet-based communication protocols.
- Experience integrating maritime or autonomous vehicle sensors (e.g., GPS, Radar, AIS).
- Proficiency with ROS/ROS2 for system integration and simulation.
- Familiarity with Docker, CI/CD, and virtualized environments for development and deployment.
- Understanding of control systems, guidance, and navigation for autonomous platforms.
- Experience in time critical systems (Real-time systems).
- Strong interest in autonomous maritime technologies and cutting-edge robotic systems.
