Job description
- Administer and support large IBM i (iSeries/IBMi) environments to ensure system stability, performance, and security.
- Perform operating system upgrades, patching activities, and manage Program Temporary Fixes (PTFs) and cumulative PTF packages.
- Monitor system performance including CPU, memory, storage, and disk utilization, proactively identifying and resolving issues.
- Manage backup and recovery operations using BRMS or equivalent tools, including disaster recovery planning and testing.
- Configure and maintain LPAR environments, TCP/IP networking, and connected system devices.
- Create and maintain user profiles, security settings, and access controls in accordance with security policies and compliance requirements.
- Troubleshoot and resolve IBM i hardware, software, and infrastructure-related issues while coordinating with vendors and support teams as required.
Requirements
- 2+ years of IBM i (iSeries/IBMi) system administration experience.
- Experience with IBM i OS upgrades, PTF management, security administration, and performance tuning.
- Strong understanding of IBM Power Systems architecture and core IBM i technologies.
- Experience using BRMS or equivalent backup and recovery solutions.
- Familiarity with disaster recovery planning, execution, and testing.
- Experience managing LPAR environments and TCP/IP configurations.
- Knowledge of IBM i security concepts including user authorities, object security, auditing, and system monitoring tools.
- Exposure to IBM i scripting or automation technologies such as CL, SQL, or RPG would be advantageous.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively across teams.
