Job description

The IT Team provide systems and support to the business, with a large PC / Microsoft estate and associated software, applications, servers, cloud systems, telecommunications, corporate network and ERP system.

We're looking for a proactive and versatile IT professional to join our team in the configuration, support, management, and deployment of systems. This will include new technologies as MKM upgrade our wider area network and continue to migrate from physical to cloud based platforms.

Working alongside other Infrastructure Specialists and members of the wider IT Team, this role will entail:

  • Supporting the operation of all infrastructure systems (network, server, telecoms, desktop, security).
  • Assisting end users, IT Helpdesk and the wider MKM IT team to resolve issues.
  • The planning, configuration and deployment of new equipment and systems.
  • Managing installations and deployments to new MKM Branches.
  • Systems monitoring and patching.

Requirements

  • Have at least 5 years' experience supporting IT infrastructure and desktop systems within a multi-site environment.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Azure, including virtual server environments, Azure networks and the related stack.
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 services including Entra ID, Exchange Online, SharePoint, Intune, etc.
  • Able to manage Active Directory and supporting roles including group policy.
  • Excellent understanding of networking fundamentals - physical and logical, switches, routers, firewalls and network services including VPNs.
  • Able to build, configure, deploy and maintain desktop user environments.
  • Understanding of the infrastructure stack and dependencies - backup and recovery, high availability, business continuity.
  • Good working knowledge and conformity to security best practise, including vulnerability management.
  • Have a self-managed, self-learning and keen service-based approach to working.
  • Project management - able to define, plan and implement your own projects.
  • Strong documentation skills - creating and maintaining documents that describe our systems, our processes and our policies.
  • Analytical - thinking beyond immediate fixes to consider how infrastructure and security choices affect the wider business ecosystem.
  • Excellent communication skills - interpersonal, written and verbal. Able to effectively engage with different audiences including management, suppliers, internal customers and IT teams.

Desirable

  • Experience within the builders' merchant sector or other similar scale trade business.
  • Knowledge of non-Microsoft systems, e.g. management of Apple Mac, mobile devices, Linux, Google Cloud.
  • Ability to support telecom systems (multiple, but primarily Avaya Cloud).

This role is primarily based in our Hull Stoneferry Offices, but travel on occasions to other sites may be required. Given the nature of this role, working may be required outside of normal office hours.
