Job description

Wheeler Staffing Partners is seeking experienced Building Automation Analyst to support commissioning, retro-commissioning, and energy optimization initiatives across commercial construction and existing facility projects. This role is responsible for evaluating, verifying, troubleshooting, and optimizing building automation and HVAC systems both onsite and remotely.

The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise in building automation systems, HVAC controls, commissioning processes, and MEP commercial construction environments. This position requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills, along with the ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with project teams, engineers, facilities personnel, and trade partners.

This is a hybrid, travel-based role with flexibility depending on project schedules and regional travel demands.

Schedule & Travel * Hybrid work arrangement based on travel schedules and project demands. * Remote flexibility during travel-heavy weeks. * Onsite presence required during non-travel weeks when located near a company office. * Candidates located in areas without a nearby office may remain fully remote. * Approximately 30–50% travel to project sites and office locations within the assigned region. * Occasional travel outside the region may be required. * All approved travel expenses reimbursed, including airfare, lodging, rental vehicles, and meals., * Perform assigned duties in accordance with company policies, procedures, and safety guidelines. * Conduct site surveys, documentation reviews, and facility assessments to evaluate existing building conditions. * Develop and support implementation of energy conservation measures and system optimization strategies. * Participate in design reviews and submittal reviews for commissioning projects. * Utilize cloud-based commissioning software platforms to document commissioning activities and project progress. * Develop and quality check pre-functional checklists and functional performance tests. * Troubleshoot, optimize, and modify building automation and HVAC system programming as needed. * Utilize testing instrumentation to verify and optimize building system performance. * Execute and oversee functional performance testing activities. * Coordinate with project teams, facilities personnel, subcontractors, and trade partners to support project execution. * Develop technical reports, project observations, and system documentation. * Monitor energy performance metrics and collaborate with project teams to ensure performance goals are achieved. * Track, communicate, and assist with issue resolution throughout the project lifecycle. * Support commissioning activities for both new construction and existing facilities. * Maintain accurate project documentation and records. * Promote safety, quality, and continuous improvement initiatives across all projects. * Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related technical field. * 5–7+ years of experience in building automation systems and HVAC controls. * Experience supporting MEP commercial construction projects and building systems optimization. * Strong understanding of heating, cooling, and building automation systems. * Experience evaluating and enhancing performance in both new construction and existing facilities. * Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills. * Ability to work independently with limited direction. * Experience using cloud-based commissioning software platforms. * Excellent written and verbal communication skills. * Strong organizational and time-management abilities. * Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. * Commitment to workplace safety and operational excellence.

Preferred Qualifications * Engineering Intern (EI) certification. * Commissioning Certification through ACG, BCxA, or ASHRAE. * Certified Energy Manager (CEM) certification. * Experience with building automation systems design and programming. * Experience supporting healthcare or higher education construction projects preferred.
