Job description
We're looking for a Research Engineer or Research Scientist to push the boundaries of what's possible with AI in the marina and maritime industry. You'll conduct applied research, prototype new capabilities, and translate cutting-edge techniques into production-ready systems. This role sits at the intersection of research and engineering - we need someone who can read a paper, implement it, and ship it. If you're excited about applying frontier AI to a real-world industry that's ripe for transformation, this is the role. What You'll Do
Research: Stay at the frontier of AI/ML research - foundation models, multi-modal systems, agent architectures, and retrieval methods. Identify techniques that can be applied to Admiral's products and bring them to life.
Prototype: Rapidly build and test new AI capabilities - from advanced call analysis and predictive models to autonomous agent systems. Move fast from idea to working prototype.
Productionize: Work with the engineering team to take successful prototypes into production. Design systems that are reliable, observable, and cost-effective at scale.
Measure: Define metrics, design experiments, and rigorously evaluate model performance. Build the infrastructure for continuous evaluation and improvement of AI systems.
Requirements
- MS or PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Strong publication record or demonstrated applied research experience in AI/ML.
- Proficiency in Python and deep learning frameworks (PyTorch, JAX, or TensorFlow).
- Experience with LLMs, fine-tuning, RLHF, or retrieval-augmented generation.
- Ability to translate research ideas into working code and production systems.
- Strong mathematical foundations in statistics, linear algebra, and optimization.
- Experience with cloud ML infrastructure (AWS SageMaker, GCP Vertex AI, or similar).
- Self-directed and comfortable working in an unstructured, fast-paced startup environment.
