At CVS, we're building an Infrastructure Platform to enable teams across CVS Digital to quickly and safely deploy code and operate applications at the scale of a Fortune 10 company! The Infrastructure Platform will be leveraged by hundreds of engineers across Retail, Pharmacy, Health Solutions, and Aetna writing applications that will be used by millions of customers.
The Staff Software Development Engineer is a high visibility, hands on software engineering role that will help lead the implementation of a modern application resource self service provisioning. To be effective in this role, you must have a passion and knowledge for building highly scalable systems while working across a wide net of teams and skillsets.
This is a new team at CVS, and we need a strong technical leader who can work with a high level of freedom and autonomy, advocate for best practices, and can collaborate with engineers, product managers, designers, architects and leadership to build a platform that engineers want to use. This is a unique opportunity to help build a platform from the ground up and set the standard for exceptional code and safe deployments for a large company.

- You will lead the implementation of a self-service platform that enables engineers to deploy code safely, quickly, and easily
- You will keep an eye out for new and emerging technologies that improve performance, delivery, and the developer experience
- You actively participate in peer code reviews, providing feedback to your fellow engineers to make them better and to improve the quality of the software we deliver
- You enjoy automating developer pain away by developing APIs, CLIs, bots, etc
- You approach all engineering work with a performance lens and make it easy for teams to identify performance bottlenecks
- You find joy and pride in coaching and mentoring mid to early career software engineers
- You look for opportunities to share what you've learned with the broader engineering organization
Requirements
- 7+ years of overall backend development experience on enterprise class applications
- 5+ years partnering with architecture, product, and program management teams to influence product development decisions
- 4+ years of backend technologies, such as Java, Spring Boot, Golang, Kafka, PostgreSQL, and large public cloud technologies i.e. GCP, AWS, etc.
- Experience with leading teams who follow a Scrum/Agile development methodology
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with backend APIs
- Experience with industry cloud providers
- Experience with Java
- Experience with Golang
- Experience automating through scripting and/or CLIs
- Experience with observability for infrastructure services
- Experience training and mentoring other engineers
- Ability to understand the performance of a largely scaled infrastructure platform
- Ability to identify customer needs and pain points and identify solutions
- Ability to present the benefits and drawbacks of various architecture designs for infrastructure, Bachelor's degree or, equivalent experience (HS diploma + 4 years relevant experience)
Benefits & conditions
$106,605.00 - $284,280.00
This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company's equity award program.
