Precision Biosciences is seeking an experienced senior systems engineer focused on the availability, security, and robustness of our IT systems. This person will be responsible for designing and administering cloud-based SaaS/PaaS, hypervisors, virtual servers, storage systems, backup systems, physical and logical networking, laboratory computer systems, and end-user computers (fleet maintenance). Responsibilities include system design, onboarding, maintenance, upgrade, retirement, and incident management within our technology infrastructure. Coordinating with key business stakeholders, this team member will take ownership of projects large and small to find the best possible balance of desired outcomes and timelines across many concurrent projects. The ideal candidate is an IT generalist who is comfortable across multiple technology solutions and providers. - Work directly with IT leadership and key business stakeholders, ensuring their needs are understood and met whenever possible
- Own the maintenance and support of key technology infrastructure systems, including server, network, and backup environment

- Stay vigilant in complying with Standard Operating Procedures in a 21 CFR part 11/Annex 11 environment
- Ensure systems and solutions adhere to our cybersecurity standards by implementing and maintaining secure configuration and procedural controls
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, proactively coordinating with others as schedules change
- Create, maintain, and update documentation for IT systems
- Work will be primarily onsite at our headquarters in downtown Durham
Requirements
- Associates degree in IT or related field plus 5+ years' experience performing in an IT engineering capacity
- 3+ years' experience providing IT support in a government regulated industry such as pharmaceuticals, healthcare, education, or banking
- Excellent interpersonal skills, understanding that how end users feel about an outcome is nearly as important as the outcome itself.
- Requires ability to work in a highly regulated environment. Working knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Computers Systems Validation (CSV).
- Prefers applied experience with GMP and CSV, preferably within a pharmaceutical/life sciences environment.
- Must Have:
- Experience building and supporting VMware vSphere & vCenter environments
- Experience building and supporting Veeam BDR environments
- Foundational enterprise network experience (IP subnetting, VLAN's, and firewall rule building)
- Basic Linux administration experience (network, account, and storage setup and maintenance)
Preferred:
- Practical understanding of 21 CFR part 11
- Working knowledge of SOX ITGC controls
- Experience working within an information security framework (NIST CSF, ISO 27000, etc.)
- Administration experience with:
- Windows Server
- Debian/Ubuntu
- Enterprise network switches, wireless controllers, and firewalls
- Enterprise block storage
- Active Directory
- Microsoft 365/Azure/Entra
- Intune
- Fleet management (software packaging and deployment)
- Familiarity with
- ITSM ticketing system
- LIMS
- Teams
