Job description
Estrella Mountain Community College (EMCC) is hiring an Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning faculty to join the Instructional Computing division that offers multiple occupational programs such as Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Programming, Networking, Cybersecurity, Web Development, as well as Computer Science. This position will teach computing using innovative, collaborative, and interactive methods.
This position will begin in Fall 2026
Essential Functions
Instruction and Student Learning
Provides instruction to a varied student population across modalities (in-person, online, hybrid, accelerated, and alternative formats); applies learning-centered strategies to promote engagement, retention, and student success; demonstrates innovation in teaching and learning; integrates emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence tools, into instruction; supports development of critical thinking, problem-solving, and ethical use of AI in learning environments.
Curriculum Development and Assessment
Develops and maintains curriculum, including syllabi, course materials, and learning activities; assesses student learning and evaluates subject matter mastery; prepares and grades assessments; participates in division and college assessment and program review processes; uses assessment results to improve instruction and student outcomes.
Student Support and Engagement
Maintains office hours to assist, advise, and mentor students; supports student learning outside the classroom through instructional activities, projects, and experiential learning opportunities; promotes student success, belonging, and engagement.
Program Development and Workforce Alignment (increasing responsibility over time)
Supports the development, quality, and growth of the AI program; builds and maintains relationships with industry partners to ensure alignment with workforce needs; collaborates with the Center for Workforce and Experiential Learning to identify and expand experiential learning opportunities such as internships, apprenticeships, and applied projects; works with partner institutions, including Chandler-Gilbert Community College, to align curriculum and support transfer and bachelor's degree pathways; contributes to program review, curriculum updates, and enrollment and retention efforts; supports outreach, recruitment, and student engagement activities related to the program.
Professional Development and College Service
Maintains current knowledge of developments in artificial intelligence, technology, and pedagogy through research, industry engagement, and professional development activities; contributes to the academic life of the college through participation in department, division, college, and/or district committees and initiatives; collaborates with faculty, staff, and community partners; performs other duties as assigned commensurate with the position., If you qualify based solely on the five (5) years of work experience in the field to be taught, unofficial transcripts will not be required.

Requirements
This position requires any of the following experience and/or education from an accredited college or university:
Five (5) years of occupational experience in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning
OR
Three (3) years of occupational experience in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning and a Bachelor's degree
OR
A Master's degree in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning
OR
A Master's degree in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning with 18 graduate credits in the teaching field
OR
A Master's degree in any field with a combination of 24 upper division and/or graduate credits in the teaching field (Upper division courses are Junior and Senior level courses in obtaining a Bachelor's degree)
Desired Qualifications

Advanced training in the computing field as evidenced by a Computer Science graduate degree, graduate training/course credit hours or professional certification.

Industry and/or Teaching experience in programming with preference to Python, data science, artificial intelligence, and machine learning.

Experience teaching in a higher education institution using teaching methods that involve student engagement and/or collaborative/active learning.

Experience teaching in a variety of delivery formats including face-to-face, online, live-online, hybrid, and short-term/accelerated courses.

Experience collaborating with educational institutions to guide student pathways and with industry partners to promote mentoring and/or internships.

Experience working with, interacting with and instructing individuals of diverse abilities and/or cultural backgrounds.

One year of full-time, relevant MCCCD experience within the previous two years
