Job description

The Senior Database Administrator (DBA) is a key member of the Database Administration team, operating in a high-energy, collaborative, and fast-paced environment. This role is responsible for the architecture, administration, availability, performance, and reliability of enterprise database platforms.

As a production DBA, you will manage mission-critical databases across multiple environments, including large-scale production systems, while also providing support for QA and development platforms. You will play an active role in ensuring operational excellence, participating in incident response, performance optimization, and select development initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Perform hands-on database administration to support highly available production systems

  • Provide operational support for QA and Development environments

  • Monitor, maintain, and optimize database health, performance, availability, and security

  • Identify and implement opportunities to fine-tune and optimize database systems

  • Develop and maintain SQL and PL/SQL solutions to address business and operational needs

  • Participate in architecture discussions related to database clustering, high availability, disaster recovery, and capacity planning

  • Create and maintain technical documentation, runbooks, and operational procedures

  • Work effectively under pressure during incidents while maintaining attention to detail

  • Operate with a high degree of autonomy while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education, technical training, and professional experience

  • Strong experience as an Oracle Database Administrator, including Core Oracle Administration, Oracle RAC, MAA, Data Guard, ASM and Grid Infrastructure. Proficient in database backup, recovery, cloning, and patching strategies, and Solid SQL and PL/SQL development skills

  • Proven expertise in database performance tuning and troubleshooting, and ability to analyze and interpret SQL execution plans and system performance metrics

  • Strong experience working in Unix/Linux Environment. Proficiency in shell scripting, and experience with Perl and/or Python is highly desirable

  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills. Ability to react quickly and precisely during critical incidents

  • Self-motivated and self-directed, with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and also a collaborative team player with strong work ethics

  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to learn new technologies and share knowledge

  • Experience with other RDBMS platforms such as PostgreSQL and/or MySQL

  • Experience with Exadata is a strong plus

  • Familiarity with AI-assisted coding or database automation tools is a plus
