Job description

The Sr Systems Engineer will provide systems and infrastructure administration for mission-critical enterprise systems supporting a federal customer. The role focuses on the configuration, operation, security, and lifecycle support of systems deployed across multiple environments and enclaves, ensuring high availability, compliance, and effective coordination with government stakeholders and multi-disciplinary technical teams., * Install, configure, and maintain Windows and/or Linux servers, including patching, upgrades, and performance tuning.

  • Administer Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, group policies, and related core infrastructure services as applicable.
  • Monitor system health, capacity, performance, and logs; proactively identify and resolve issues to minimize downtime.
  • Implement and maintain backup, recovery, and disaster recovery procedures in alignment with organizational RPO/RTO objectives.
  • Apply and validate security hardening (e.g., DISA STIGs, CIS benchmarks), antivirus/EDR tools, and vulnerability remediation.
  • Manage user and service accounts, access control, and permissions in coordination with security and compliance requirements.
  • Support integration of servers with storage, virtualization, and network platforms (e.g., VMware/Hyper-V, SAN/NAS).
  • Create and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), diagrams, and system documentation.
  • Participate in change management, incident response, and problem management processes.
  • Provide Tier 1 /Tier 2 / Tier 3 support for the customer system.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience that meets the requirements.
  • 6 years of hands-on experience as a System Administrator or similar role supporting production environments.
  • Demonstrated experience administering Windows Server and/or Linux in an enterprise setting.
  • Hands-on experience supporting systems across multiple classified enclaves, with a strong understanding of enclave segregation, cross-domain constraints, and continuity requirements.
  • CompTIA Security+ (active) or equivalent baseline certification (e.g., DoD 8570/8140 IAT/IASA level) - Security+ required.
  • Active TS/SCI, with demonstrated experience supporting highly classified programs.
  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP networking, including routing, switching basics, firewalls, and VPN concepts.
  • Experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, or equivalent).
  • Experience with system monitoring and logging tools (e.g., SCOM, Nagios, Splunk, or equivalents).
  • Experience implementing and maintaining backup and recovery solutions.
  • Ability to follow and enforce security policies, access controls, and configuration baselines.
  • Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills with a structured, methodical approach.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to interact effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Must meet all citizenship, clearance, and suitability requirements for the applicable contract., * Current industry certifications such as CompTIA Security+, Network+, Server+, Microsoft (MCSA/MCSE), Red Hat (RHCSA/RHCE), VMware (VCP), or similar.
  • Experience with configuration management / automation tools (e.g., Ansible, PowerShell DSC, Chef, Puppet).
  • Familiarity with ITIL-based service management and ticketing systems (e.g., ServiceNow, Remedy, Jira Service Management).
  • Experience working on government or regulated environments (e.g., FedRAMP, DoD, HIPAA, PCI).
  • Experience participating in audits, security assessments, or compliance reporting.

Work Environment & Schedule

  • Standard business hours with flexibility to support after-hours maintenance and on-call support as needed.
  • Ability to lift and move equipment (e.g., servers, networking gear) up to 50 pounds, and to work in data center environments if required.
  • Ability to work in secure facilities and data center-like environments, and to travel occasionally for meetings, site support, or tests as required.
  • Onsite support 9-5.

Benefits & conditions

Dell is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The Total Target Compensation range for this position is $186,000 - $240,000, which includes base salary and commissions.
