Job description

Insight Global is hiring a NOC Engineer III on behalf of a regionally based telecom carrier client to serve as a senior technical leader within the Network Operations Center. This individual will act as the primary escalation point, providing 24/7 support for complex network issues across voice, data, and transport environments. The role is highly hands-on, requiring advanced troubleshooting skills and the ability to resolve critical incidents impacting network performance. This engineer will also play a key role in training and mentoring NOC staff, helping elevate overall team capability and response effectiveness.

In addition to operational support, the NOC Engineer III will contribute to cross-functional projects, representing the NOC in architectural discussions and network planning initiatives. The position requires strong collaboration with internal teams and third-party vendors to drive issue resolution and maintain service-level expectations. This individual will be responsible for maintaining accurate technical documentation, including network diagrams and knowledge base materials.

Requirements

The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in either data or voice technologies, with the ability to support complex routing, switching, and transport systems. This includes hands-on experience with hardware configuration, upgrades, and validation across a variety of network devices. The role also involves performance monitoring, testing, and continuous improvement to ensure network reliability and scalability. Success in this position requires strong communication skills, the ability to manage competing priorities, and a proactive, ownership-driven mindset., 5+ years of experience in a Tier II/III Network Operations or similar engineering role (or 8+ years of relevant experience in lieu of degree)

  • Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills across voice and/or data networks

  • Experience serving as an escalation point in a 24/7 NOC environment with on-call responsibilities

  • Hands-on experience with network hardware including routers, switches (Layer 2/3), firewalls, and related devices

  • Experience with routing protocols such as BGP, OSPF, and/or ISIS (for data-focused candidates)

  • Experience with VoIP, SIP, PRI, or TDM technologies (for voice-focused candidates)

  • Ability to manage vendor relationships and drive issue resolution through third-party providers

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including customer-facing interactions

  • Experience creating and maintaining technical documentation, including Visio diagrams

  • Ability to multi-task, work independently, and manage priorities in a fast-paced environment

  • Experience performing network upgrades and validating system performance post-implementation

  • Proven ability to support cross-functional teams and contribute to operational and project-based initiatives - Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field

  • CCNA or CCNP certification

  • Relevant industry certifications (Cisco, Juniper, Ciena, Fortinet, Adtran, VeloCloud, etc.)

  • Advanced expertise in a specific discipline: Data, Voice, or Transport

  • Experience with advanced performance testing, SLA adherence, and MTTR optimization

  • Knowledge of PSTN, long-distance interconnects, and telecom switching functions (LNP, CNAM, STIR/SHAKEN, etc.)

  • Familiarity with telecom protocols such as SS7, ISDN, SIP, GR-303, or PTS

  • Experience configuring and testing carrier circuits (DS1, DS3, optical) and associated equipment

  • Background in telecom network architecture or involvement in design/engineering decision-making

  • Experience developing and delivering technical training programs within a NOC or operations environment
