Job description
We are seeking an experienced Automation / 508 / Performance Test Engineer to support automated testing, Section 508/accessibility validation, performance/load testing, regression testing, and quality assurance for an enterprise SaaS modernization effort within the Department of Veterans Affairs. This role helps ensure that a Pega-based solution supporting PPBE, budget, acquisition, reporting, workflow, and auditability requirements is reliable, accessible, performant, secure, and ready for production use. The Automation / 508 / Performance Test Engineer works closely with functional testers, Pega engineers, data/integration resources, Product Owners, Scrum Masters, platform administrators, release managers, and Government stakeholders to build repeatable test coverage, validate accessibility and performance requirements, and support disciplined release readiness., · Develop, maintain, and execute automated test scripts, regression test suites, performance test scripts, accessibility test procedures, and related QA artifacts.
· Support automated testing to improve repeatability, coverage, and efficiency across Agile sprints, regression cycles, and release candidates.
· Perform Section 508 and WCAG accessibility testing for application functionality, user interfaces, reports, forms, documents, workflows, and release updates.
· Support Accessibility Conformance Report/VPAT inputs, 508 testing documentation, defect tracking, remediation validation, and accessibility regression testing.
· Develop and execute performance, load, stress, endurance, and scalability tests based on expected usage patterns, transaction volumes, user roles, and system performance thresholds.
· Analyze performance results, identify bottlenecks, document degradation points, and support recommendations for tuning or remediation.
· Collaborate with functional testers to align automated and manual testing coverage across requirements, user stories, workflows, and acceptance criteria.
· Work with Pega engineers, platform administrators, and data/integration resources to troubleshoot performance, accessibility, regression, and automation defects.
· Integrate automated testing into CI/CD or release management workflows where practical and approved.
· Maintain traceability between automated tests, requirements, defects, releases, performance results, and accessibility findings.
· Prepare test execution reports, 508 test logs, performance test results, remediation plans, QA metrics, and release readiness inputs.
· Participate in sprint planning, defect triage, release planning, configuration/change control reviews, and production readiness activities.
· Support continuous improvement of QA automation frameworks, accessibility testing methods, and performance validation practices.
Requirements
· 5+ years of progressive experience in QA automation, accessibility testing, performance testing, software testing, or technical quality assurance.
· Experience designing, developing, and executing automated regression tests, accessibility tests, and/or performance/load tests for enterprise applications.
· Familiarity with Section 508, WCAG 2.0/2.1 A/AA, assistive technologies, accessibility defects, VPAT/ACR support, and accessibility remediation validation.
· Experience with performance testing concepts such as workload modeling, response time, throughput, latency, stress testing, endurance testing, and bottleneck analysis.
· Experience using one or more tools or platforms to support test automation, performance testing, accessibility testing, defect tracking, test execution, or test management activities.
· Practical understanding of Agile testing, CI/CD support, regression testing, release readiness, defect triage, and test reporting.
· Ability to troubleshoot issues across UI, workflow, data, integration, browser, configuration, and environment layers.
· Strong analytical, documentation, reporting, and communication skills.
· Ability to work effectively with functional testers, developers, platform administrators, release managers, and Government stakeholders.
· Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality, accessibility, and user experience.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS DESIRED:
· Exposure to Federal, state, health, financial, or other regulated IT delivery environments is beneficial; Department of Veterans Affairs experience is a plus but not required.
· Familiarity with SaaS platforms, workflow applications, case management systems, low-code/no-code platforms, or Pega applications is valued.
· Experience with accessibility testing, automated regression testing, performance/load testing, API testing, or test data validation is a plus.
· Working knowledge of VPAT/ACR support, Section 508, WCAG, CI/CD, release readiness, or defect remediation validation is beneficial.
· Relevant testing, accessibility, automation, performance, Agile, or quality assurance certifications are preferred, but not required.
EDUCATION:
· Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
CLEARANCE:
· Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
