At Phillips 66, the Senior Advisor II, Data Architect plays a key role in shaping how digital and data capabilities support business priorities at scale. This position is ideal for a seasoned architect who brings strategic perspective, strong technical judgment, and a passion for modern, well-designed solutions. You'll operate as a trusted individual contributor, influencing direction, strengthening foundations, and helping the organization stay prepared for what's next., * Design and maintain the end-to-end enterprise data architecture leveraging Databricks , Delta Lake , and Medallion (Bronze/Silver/Gold) Architecture .
- Define scalable, future-proof data models and pipelines that support structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data at enterprise scale.
- Develop and maintain architectural principles, patterns, and standards to ensure consistency across data engineering teams.
- Lead the evolution of the data platform toward open, cloud-native, and interoperable technologies.
Data Engineering & Platform Design
- Architect and optimize Delta Lake storage layers for reliability, performance, ACID transactions, schema evolution, and data quality enforcement.
- Develop standards for ingestion frameworks, ETL/ELT pipelines, streaming architectures, and transformation logic.
- Partner with platform teams to optimize Databricks compute architecture, cluster design, and cost management strategies.
- Evaluate and implement new technologies, capabilities, and data tools to enhance the platform.
Governance, Quality & Standards
- Establish best practices for data governance, security, lineage, cataloging, and quality monitoring.
- Define naming standards, folder structures, coding conventions, and repository patterns for cross-team consistency.
- Work with InfoSec and compliance teams to ensure adherence to corporate and regulatory requirements.
- Implement reusable frameworks for data validation, testing, and observability.
Collaboration & Leadership
- Partner with data engineering, analytics, product, and business teams to define data requirements and design solutions.
- Mentor senior and junior data engineers on architectural patterns and coding best practices.
- Communicate architectural decisions and tradeoffs to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Provide guidance on project planning, roadmap development, and architectural reviews.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field
- 6 or more years of experience in data architecture, digital architecture, or closely related technology roles, with demonstrated depth in designing and advising on enterprise-scale solutions
- Hands-on experience with at least one cloud platform; Azure, AWS or GCP
- Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
What Makes You Stand Out - Preferred
- Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field
- Advanced proficiency in:
- Databricks (Spark, SQL, Delta Live Tables, Unity Catalog)
- Delta Lake and lakehouse architectures
- Medallion Architecture design and implementation
- Advanced proficiency in distributed data systems, Spark optimization, and big data processing
- Advanced proficiency in data modeling, ETL/ELT design, and performance optimization
- Advanced proficiency in programming skills using Python and SQL
- Experience implementing data governance frameworks, cataloging solutions, lineage tools, and security models
- Experience designing data architectures in cloud or hybrid environments, including data lakes, data warehouses, or lakehouse patterns
- Advanced proficiency in programming skills using Scala or PySpark
- Familiarity with ML/AI pipelines, MLOps frameworks, and feature store concepts
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, DevOps, and Infrastructure as Code for data platforms
- Familiarity with data governance, metadata management, and data quality practices in large or regulated organizations
- Experience supporting analytics, reporting, or advanced use cases such as machine learning or AI enablement
- Background in energy, manufacturing, logistics, or other asset-intensive industries
- A track record of staying current with emerging technologies and applying them thoughtfully to real-world business challenges
- Strong ability to analyze current-state environments, define future-state architectures, and guide complex change initiatives from concept through execution
- Proven experience partnering with technical and business stakeholders to translate requirements into pragmatic, scalable architecture decisions
- Advanced knowledge of data platforms, integration patterns, and architectural standards used in modern enterprise environments

Benefits & conditions
This position has a base salary range of $160,200- $195,800.
