Job description

The University of Iowa Health Care Department of Radiology is seeking a System Architect to manage the day-to-day operations of the team charged with maintenance of PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System) equipment including image workflow, archiving, auto-routing, diagnostic viewing and prefetching and other related activities. Oversee various other Radiology IT-related platforms in addition to PACS. Oversee integration of other departments' imaging systems with PACS architecture. Possess knowledge of PACS system design and architecture as well as radiographic imaging modalities and their interactions with the PACS. Leads project development and implementation., * Analysis: Lead in the analysis and design of complex, enterprise Radiology IT configurations. Design integration across multiple Radiology imaging platforms. Develops efficient and cost-effective ways to support departmental operations. Assists with vendor security reviews.

  • Implementation: Manage multiple large-scale and often interdependent projects related to the PACS system, throughout the healthcare institution. Ensures integration, security and backup systems are in place.
  • Documentation: Develops complex enterprise solution deployment plans in partnership with key vendors and stakeholders. Develops and performs RFPs and RFIs for department IT systems. Regularly communicate with key department stakeholders the status of project implementation and status. Develops and maintains documentation for downtime procedures of key systems.
  • Support: Departmental expert for troubleshooting escalation. Oversees ongoing maintenance and monitoring operations for Radiology IT systems. Oversees disaster recovery plans that are consistent with departmental goals and strategies. Provides technical knowledge and support to departments across the hospital who interface with radiology platforms.
  • Relationship Management: Actively negotiates contracts with vendors for implementation and ongoing service agreements. Ensures HCIS information security requirements for all vendor deployed platforms. Works to maintain good working relationships between Radiology and outside departments that require the PACS group's services.
  • Leadership: Develops departmental roadmap for upgrading and replacement of Radiology IT platforms. Serves as technical expert for the Department of Radiology. Leads the PACS team through project development and implementation. Hires and develops PACS staff. Provides coaching to staff when necessary. Responsible for operational and capital budget development related to system implementation and ongoing service costs.

Requirements

Do you have a valid Driver's License license?, Do you have experience in Team management?, Do you have a Master's degree?, * Completion of a bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and work experience is required., * Seven years of direct working experience in team leadership and managing in a fast-paced customer-service oriented environment.

  • Direct working experience managing large-scale project development and implementation.
  • Basic knowledge of computer networking, operating systems, and server technology.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Driver's License and ability to meet the University of Iowa Fleet Management Driver's safety requirements.
  • Ability to participate in extended work hours, outside of normal scheduled work hours, when necessary.
  • Demonstrated excellent problem-solving ability to resolve issues and insure functionality., * Master's degree in related field.
  • Experience in the assembly, installation, troubleshooting and repair of computer hardware and software, network routing, operating systems, server technology, security, and switching technologies.
  • Working knowledge and experience of PACS (picture archiving and communication system) operation and technology.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Server Operating Systems.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Experience working in a healthcare environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively independently and/or within a team environment.
