Job description
An employee in this position is responsible for providing support, guidance and referrals to students of SUNY Adirondack and for communicating/responding to customers as needed through established protocol. The work is performed under the direct supervision of the designated area or Departmental supervisor or Administrator. Supervision of others is not a function of this class. The incumbent performs related work as required., * Communicates and responds to departmental customers through phone calls, emails, etc., from staff, faculty, parents, students and outside agencies
- Advises and guides students on the appropriate College and SUNY processes and procedures
- Refers students to appropriate College services, faculty and staff, and advises and directs them accordingly
- Prepares correspondence and reports as necessary
- Serves as a front-line representative, addressing student questions and concerns, with attention toward student development and educational needs
- Assists departments in the procurement of textbooks, instructional materials or similar
- Orders supplies for departments as needed
- Maintains multiple individual and/or departmental calendars, files and records
- Works independently and collaboratively on departmental projects
- Mentors student employees and coordinates their assignments
- May assist college staff with departmental intake, registration, retention, and completion efforts
- May assist with orientation and training of new staff
- May assist with orientation, campus tours or student recruitment events
- Uses computer applications or other automated systems such as spread sheets, word processing, calendar, email and applicable database software/systems with proficiency in performing work assignments
- Ensures an accurate processing of information and input into appropriate software program when necessary for data
- Maintains and adheres to departmental confidentiality, including FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974) guidelines with regards to all communications
- Assists as needed to support departmental daily operations.
Requirements
Do you have experience in Technical Proficiency?, Do you have a High school diploma or GED?, * Good knowledge of office practices and procedures
- Working knowledge of College's policies and procedures, academic requirements, campus resources, student life, and support services
- Ability to organize, coordinate and prioritize projects
- Ability to work with a diverse population
- Ability to identify students' needs for services in order to make appropriate referrals
- Ability to operate a personal computer and to learn and use a variety of software packages
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; Excellent interpersonal/human relations skills, a) Bachelor's degree; or b) Associate's degree and two (2) years of experience working in a business setting, providing face-to-face customer service, including advising and guiding customers; or c) Graduation from a high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and four (4) years of experience working in a business setting, providing face-to-face customer service, including advising and guiding customers NOTE: Your degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education. If your degree was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency.
