Job description
If you enjoy building data platforms rather than simply maintaining them, this could be worth a look.
We're supporting a well-established financial services organisation investing heavily in Azure, Microsoft Fabric and AI-driven insight capability. They are at an interesting point in their journey, with an established Azure environment already in place and a clear roadmap centred around Microsoft Fabric and modern analytics.
This is an opportunity to join a small, capable team where your work will have visibility and influence. You won't be a small part of a large machine. You'll help shape the platform, mentor others and contribute to decisions around future architecture and capability.
The role combines hands-on engineering with technical leadership and would suit someone who enjoys solving problems, improving platforms and helping define best practice.
The Opportunity
You'll play a key role in evolving a modern Azure-native data platform whilst helping lead the move toward a Fabric-first environment.
You'll work across:
- Microsoft Fabric including Lakehouse, Warehouse and OneLake
- Azure Data Lake and Synapse environments
- Data pipelines and ETL / ELT processes
- SQL and analytics datasets
- Power BI reporting and data models
- AI and machine learning-enabled insights
- API integrations and connected data services
Alongside delivering hands-on engineering work, you'll mentor Data Engineers and Power BI developers and help shape standards across the wider team.
What You'll Be Doing
- Designing and building scalable Azure data pipelines
- Leading migration and adoption of Microsoft Fabric
- Building and optimising analytics-ready data models
- Integrating multiple internal and external data sources
- Supporting Azure Synapse and Data Lake environments
- Contributing to AI and machine learning-driven initiatives
- Working closely with business and technical stakeholders
- Coaching and mentoring team members
What We're Looking For
You do not need to tick every box.
We're interested in people with strong Azure data engineering fundamentals who want to play a visible role in shaping a modern data platform.
Experience around some of the following would be useful:
- Azure Data Engineering environments
- SQL and data modelling
- ETL / ELT pipeline design
- Azure Synapse
- Azure Data Lake
- Microsoft Fabric
- Power BI
- Azure DevOps
- API integrations
- Exposure to AI, ML or Copilot-enabled initiatives
Requirements
Just as important are communication skills, curiosity and the ability to work collaboratively across teams.
Benefits & conditions
- £60,000 - £70,000 salary
- 10% annual bonus
- 7% employer pension contribution
- Private medical
- Income protection
- Hybrid working
- Modern Azure and Fabric technology stack
- Genuine technical influence
- Long-term progression opportunities
- Opportunity to shape how AI and data evolve across the business
This is a good opportunity for someone who enjoys building things properly and wants to be part of a platform journey rather than simply inheriting BAU work.
