Job description
- Design and build scalable backend services and APIs using Node.js, PostgreSQL, and Redis
- Optimize SQL queries and database schemas for performance across large datasets
- Develop systems that operate reliably under high traffic and transaction volumes
- Partner with product, engineering, and leadership teams to deliver backend features
- Leverage AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Copilot, Claude, Cursor) and contribute to AI/LLM feature integration
- Identify and reduce technical debt; lead refactoring and modernization efforts
- Participate in code reviews, standups, and deployment processes
- Mentor engineers and promote best practices across the team
- Own projects end-to-end from design through production deployment
Requirements
- 8+ years of backend software engineering experience
- Strong expertise with Node.js and PostgreSQL (or similar relational databases)
- Advanced SQL skills (performance tuning, debugging, large dataset optimization)
- Experience building consumer-facing, high-scale platforms
- Solid understanding of distributed systems, backend architecture, and scalability
- Experience with cloud environments (AWS or GCP) and DevOps practices (CI/CD, monitoring, IaC)
- Hands-on experience using AI tools in development workflows
- Strong ownership mindset with excellent collaboration and communication skills
Preferred Experience:
- Background in hospitality, travel, marketplace, or e-commerce platforms
- Experience scaling systems to millions of users
- Exposure to ML/AI platforms (Vertex AI, SageMaker, Azure ML)
- Familiarity with React and Next.js
- Contributions to open-source projects or technical communities

The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.
