Job description
Our client, an international manufacturer of construction equipment, seeks an HRIS/Payroll Systems Specialist on a long term, indefinite temporary/contract position. This role is classified as staff augmentation.
This position is available hybrid/on-site in Mebane, NC, or fully remote for candidates residing in NC, NJ, SC, FL, or GA only. Applicants outside these states will not be considered.
This role blends deep payroll system expertise (Dayforce-centric, with broader HRIS exposure) with practical application of AI tools including Copilot, AI agents, and scripted automations. The Specialist will also reduce operational risk, eliminate manual work, and preserve institutional knowledge through well?designed, governed automation.
Payroll System Support & Optimization:
- Serve as subject-matter expert for Payroll system configuration, data structures, and integrations
- Diagnose and resolve complex Payroll and HR system issues across pay, time, benefits, and reporting
- Manage mass data updates, imports, audits, and reconciliations with high accuracy and compliance
- Support testing, release management, and validation for system upgrades and regulatory changes
- Ensure documentation of system logic, decisions, and dependencies to reduce single-person risk
AI, Copilot & Automation Enablement
- Design, build, and maintain Copilot agents supporting Payroll and HR workflows
- Use Copilot Studio / Designer to create governed, auditable automations and self?service flows
- Identify high?volume, high?risk manual Payroll and HR tasks and convert them into reliable automations
- Learn Python, PowerShell, or low?code automation tools to support recurring system tasks
- Partner with HR stakeholders to translate operational pain points into scalable AI solutions
Operational Risk Reduction & Knowledge Retention
- Reduce reliance on external vendors by building strong internal system capability
- Create SOPs, work instructions, and automation documentation to preserve knowledge for the team
- Proactively surface risks related to payroll accuracy, controls, data quality, or compliance
Requirements
Do you have a Bachelor's degree?, Payroll & HR Systems
- Deep hands-on experience with Dayforce Payroll or a comparable enterprise payroll platform
- Strong understanding of U.S. payroll controls, compliance, and audit requirements
- Experience supporting payroll in a regulated, mid?to?large company environment
- Experience with or willingness to be trained on the systems support of our HR Information System, Workday.
AI, Copilot & Automation
- Demonstrated experience working with large-language-model AI tools (e.g., Copilot)
- Experience designing and using Copilot agents and/or Copilot Studio / Designer
- Ability to create repeatable, governed automations, not one-off scripts
Education, Training & Certifications Required
- Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, HR, Business, Computer Science, or related field or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of experience in HRIS or Payroll system support roles
Preferred Certifications / Training
- Dayforce Payroll or HCM certification
- Microsoft Copilot, Power Platform, or AI-focused training/certification, * Bachelor's (Preferred), * Dayforce (Ceridian) or similar HRIS systems: 3 years (Required)
