Job description

The Principal Data Scientist in the Data Science team will play a crucial role as an architect, leading AI explorations, research, algorithmic solution creation, and fast prototyping aimed to deliver impactful initiatives within the Sam's Club division of Walmart Inc. The position involves developing foundational ML/AI models that will drive a tailored and enjoyable member experience across eCommerce, Scan & Go, and in-club shopping interactions. The role oversees end-to-end implementation of Machine Learning products in Search and Ads, guiding a scrum team and collaborating with Product Managers and Technologists to implement ML/AI solutions at scale. The Principal Data Scientist will join a vibrant group spanning Search, Personalization, and Conversational AI, driving transformative shifts in business. The position is based in Dallas, Texas, reporting to the Architect of Search and Ads. What You'll Do

  • Lead large-scale production systems with expertise in Search, information retrieval, and ranking.
  • Build large-scale ML systems in public cloud environments such as Azure and Google Cloud.
  • Apply machine-learning algorithms like Collaborative Filtering, Matrix Factorization, Factorization Machines, Word2vec, Deep Neural Networks, Wide & Deep, etc.
  • Program in Python, Java, R, or Scala and perform large-scale training using advanced data structures and algorithms.
  • Utilize machine-learning software such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, Caffe, Scikit-Learn, or Spark MLlib.
  • Implement solid MLOps practices, including design documentation, unit testing, integration testing, and source-code control (Git).
  • Operate using agile methodologies with project planning and tracking tools like JIRA.
  • Maintain curiosity and enthusiasm for solving challenges at the scale of a Fortune?1 Retailer.

You'll Make an Impact By

  • Leading a team of Data Scientists and Engineers focused on Back End software infrastructure for AI/ML solutions.
  • Partnering closely with Product and engineering leaders to inform, drive, and accelerate innovations in discovery experiences through insights, frameworks, causal inference solutions, and machine-learning prototypes.
  • Executing the full life cycle of projects-project planning, data collection, model prototyping, deployment-while managing stakeholder communication.
  • Building an MLOps framework for continuous deployment, testing, and personalization of user experience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field and 5?years experience in an analytics-related field.
  • Master's degree in the same field and 3?years experience in an analytics-related field.
  • 7?years experience in an analytics or related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Information Technology, Operations Research, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or Econometrics.
  • Experience in data science, machine learning, optimization models, and publishing or peer reviewing.
  • Proficiency in Python, Spark, Scala, or R, and open-source frameworks such as scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or Torch.
  • Background in creating inclusive digital experiences and knowledge of WCAG?2.2 AA standards.

Sunnyvale, California: $143,000.00 - $286,000.00 annually. Bentonville, Arkansas: $110,000.00 - $220,000.00 annually. Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses; Regional Pay Zone may apply.
