Infrastructure Engineer - Performance Optimization Contract - 6 months with Potential extension Type of role - Remote across UK Day rate - £480 - £655 Per Day Inside IR35
We're hiring an Infrastructure Engineer to join a high-impact platform team within a globally scaled product company in the streaming space. This role sits within a newly formed Performance Optimization squad focused on improving infrastructure efficiency and reducing cost across thousands of services.
This is a hands-on engineering role where your work directly translates into measurable performance gains and cost savings at scale.
What you'll be doing
- Drive infrastructure optimisation initiatives across large-scale Kubernetes environments (GKE)
- Identify and implement improvements in resource utilisation (CPU, memory, workload placement)
- Tune JVM-based services to enhance performance and efficiency
- Build automation to roll out optimisation changes safely across production systems
- Work closely with data to analyse usage patterns and drive cost-efficiency decisions
- Contribute to reliability practices, including safe deployments and incident response

What we're looking for
- 3-5 years' experience in Infrastructure, Platform, or Site Reliability Engineering roles
- Strong hands-on experience with Kubernetes (ideally GKE)
- Solid coding/Scripting skills in Python, Go, or Java
- Experience working with cloud platforms (preferably GCP)
- Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Helm) and CI/CD pipelines
- Good understanding of system performance, scalability, and reliability
- Experience working in product-based multinational corporations
Nice to have
- Experience with JVM tuning in production environments
- Exposure to cloud cost optimisation/FinOps practices
- Understanding of SLOs, error budgets, and safe rollout strategies
- Experience working in large-scale distributed systems
