We are seeking a Platform Engineer to join a modern, cloud-first data platform team during an exciting new phase of growth within a brand-new Manchester office.
This role sits at the heart of an Azure-based data platform, supporting the infrastructure, tooling, and automation that underpin a Databricks Lakehouse environment and wider data services. You will enable engineers and analysts to deliver secure, reliable, and scalable data products.
The Team
The Data Engineering function sits within the IT Delivery organisation as part of a wider Data & Automation capability. The team works closely with Data Governance, Data Migration, Reporting, and Automation teams. The environment is highly collaborative, forward-thinking, and technically strong, offering excellent opportunities to work on large-scale, modern data platform engineering challenges. Role Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain Azure infrastructure using Terraform (Infrastructure as Code) as the single source of truth
- Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps to automate deployments across Databricks workspaces, Unity Catalog, networking, and security components
- Support Databricks platform operations including ingestion frameworks, Spark-based processing (Scala/PySpark), and platform libraries
- Implement and manage secure cloud connectivity including VNET injection, Private Link, firewall configuration, DNS, and RBAC
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimise platform performance, reliability, and scalability
- Work closely with architects, engineers, and product teams to enforce governance, security, and best practices
- Document infrastructure, standards, and operational processes to support wider engineering adoption
Requirements
- Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure (networking, security, storage, compute)
- Proven expertise in Terraform for Azure infrastructure provisioning and governance (3+ years)
- Databricks platform administration experience (minimum 2 years)
- Strong understanding of Azure networking: VNET injection, Private Link, firewalls, DNS, and RBAC (3+ years)
- Experience with Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines (YAML, agents, service connections)
- Working knowledge of Databricks with Scala (Spark) and PySpark
- Understanding of Azure Active Directory / Entra ID, service principals, and identity management
- Experience with Azure monitoring tools (Log Analytics, Azure Monitor, Application Insights)
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in collaborative, agile environments
- Experience working in enterprise-scale cloud/data platform environments
Culture & Ways of Working
This is a modern, flexible organisation that promotes inclusive working practices and values individuality. Hybrid working is supported, with flexibility to balance office collaboration and remote focus time. The team values innovation, ownership, and continuous improvement, and encourages engineers to have a meaningful impact on platform design and delivery.
