Job description
The SAP Functional Architect - Plan-to-Produce drives the architecture of manufacturing planning and execution processes within SAP, ensuring that production workflows from demand planning and MRP through shop-floor execution operate with high performance, accuracy, and reliability. As the design owner for PTC, the Architect defines production models, master data frameworks, capacity planning parameters, and integration logic with cross-functional modules and/or systems where required. The Architect works closely with the Product Owner to translate business requirements into robust, scalable designs that uphold clean-core principles and support multi-plant operations. This role plays a key part in enabling production efficiency, operational visibility, and continuous improvement through well-architected processes, testing frameworks, and stable deployment practices., Strategy, Architecture & Standards
- Own the PTP target state for all plants (MTS, MTO, ETO or Repetitive, as applicable) using standard SAP PP capabilities, document scope, constraints, and variants.
- Enforce Clean Core: standard first, side-by-side only when strictly necessary; prohibit invasive modifications (user exits, Z-tables) that duplicate standard.
- Define reference patterns for PTP (e.g., production order vs. process order usage, repetitive manufacturing fit, Kanban), including triggering, confirmations, and backflush models.
- Establish NFR guardrails (e.g., MRP runtime windows, posting latency, job concurrency) and operability standards (logging, monitoring, error handling) within S/4HANA.
Master Data Governance (Build-Once, Reuse Everywhere)
- Govern BOMs, Routings, Work Centers, Production Versions.
- Standardize planning parameters (lot sizes, safety stock, planning strategies, lead times, scheduling margins) by product family/plant.
- Define material master rules for PTP-relevant views and ensure alignment with PTC, OTC and RTP.
Security, Controls & Compliance
- Define role/authorization needs for planners, schedulers, supervisors, and operators; enforce SoD around master data vs. execution.
- Ensure auditability for order changes, confirmations, yield/scrap edits, and routings/BOMs; maintain a complete traceability chain.
Testing & Quality Assurance
- Define E2E scenario packs: Demand MRP Order GI Confirmation GR QM FI/CO postings (incl. rework/scrap/returns).
- Provide SIT/UAT scripts for high-volume flows, constraints (finite capacity where used), and edge cases (shortages, substitutions, partials).
Cutover, Go-Live & Hypercare
- Establish dress rehearsal criteria (mock MRP, pilot orders, stock adjustments) and production validation steps (first-article checks, day-1 throughput).
- Set hypercare KPIs
- Drive root-cause and permanent fixes.
Collaboration with Product Owner
- Prioritize enablers that increase throughput, schedule adherence, and yield; co-own decisions impacting lead times and capacity.
Target Architecture & Blueprint Deliverables
- End-to-end process architecture for the functional domain
- SAP Target State Design covering standard vs. extensions
- Functional Blueprint Document (process flows, variants, decision logs)
- Cross-module architecture with OTC/PTC/RTP integration points
- Integration contracts (API/IDoc mapping, sequencing, error handling)
- Non-Functional Requirements (performance, security, auditability)
WRICEF & Build Design Deliverables
- WRICEF inventory + complexity scoring + dependency mapping
- Approved WRICEF Functional Specifications
- Prototype configurations, demo scripts, and design validation materials
Master Data Deliverables (in collaboration with MDM Team)
- Master data standards (materials/BOMs/Routings/PVs/Work Centers)
- Support to conversion mapping documents (legacy S/4HANA)
- Cutover data load requirements + mock load execution criteria
Testing Deliverables (in support of QA Team)
- End-to-End (E2E) business scenario catalog
- SIT test scripts with cross-domain flows
- UAT business scenarios, acceptance criteria, and test evidence
- Regression test packs + automation candidates for future releases
Deployment Deliverables
- Cutover plan inputs (sequence, dependencies, freeze windows)
- Functional readiness checklists
- Production validation scripts
- Hypercare playbooks + issue triage protocols
- Business stabilization metrics (defect rate, bounce-backs, rework)
Requirements
- A 4-year degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent discipline
- At least 10-15 years SAP PP/PTP experience in S/4HANA (MRP, Production Planning, Production Execution, Capacity Planning).
- Integration knowledge across OTC, RTP, PTC, and CPQ for make-to-order or variant-driven production.
- Experience designing solutions for multi-plant operations, alternate resources, capacity leveling, and bottleneck analysis.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing master data governance.
- Experience with high-volume or complex manufacturing flows: MTS, MTO, ETO, repetitive manufacturing.
- Demonstrated capability to optimize process performance through NFR definitions.
- Skilled in reviewing WRICEF objects such as production reports, custom MRP logic, Shop Floor paperwork printing capabilities.
- Experience supporting UAT, regression, cutover, and hypercare in multi-plant deployments.
- Ability to govern clean-core, BTP extension strategy, and integration architecture.
- Executive-ready communication, decision facilitation, and risk articulation.
- Ability to mentor Functional Leads and elevate the CoE's maturity.
Preferred
- SAP PP certification.
- Background in manufacturing, distribution, or make-to-order environments.
- Exposure to variant configuration or advanced planning engines.
Benefits & conditions
- Highly competitive base pay
- Comprehensive medical, dental and disability benefits programs
- Group retirement savings program
- Health and wellness programs
- An inclusive culture that values opportunity for growth, development, and internal promotion
